Maybe you could have taken him in, I'm sure it would be delightful to return home from work one day to find him holding your grandchild's head aloft and your pet rabbit on his cock.
I would happily invite the dude over to my place, but, some snags -(a) He's dead.
(b) If he can get past that minor technicality, he will have to wait a bit for my grandchild as my daughter is only 13 and doesn't live in Croydon.
(c) I cooked the rabbit with Dijon mustard. It was yummy.

Glad she's been wiped out. It's a shame about the boy but it seems unlikely he could have ever returned to a 'normal' life, even if he hadn't killed. As it was, he lived and died by the sword so to speak.
...
As pointed out above de-radicalisation programs do have some success. Brainwashed people can be reverse brainwashed. The boy did not live by the sword - he was abused by adults and made into a weapon for their ideology. ...
Where do we draw a line in relation to the culpability of people being abused and made into weapons for an ideology?
I would say that with a 12 year old child it worth always be worth a try, although the debate here is academic as the boy was with his mother when she was killed, and so he was killed too. I am simply countering those who say that he needed to be killed as well because he was himself culpable or was a lost cause. I see him as a hapless victim of wrongdoing by his mother and her associates.

More happiness & unicornsI agree 100% with the above.
Sadly, the mad Mother sentenced her Son...........what a dreadful legacy
Once "the Western Developed Countries" get to a point where we can suspend our normal morals, god help those (or ourselves) if we are on the end on the methods and weapons we have given the proven capability of inventing/using.
