IIRC the issue is that legal cases are sooooo expensive in the US that even if HW is innocent it'd cost him more than the $44m to defend himself so I can understand it from financial perspective. I will say though that I cannot imagine that if someone had 100% raped me I'd be accepting his $$ to go away

If it was consensual, why is he paying them off?

If it wasn't consensual, he should go to jail.

Money shouldn't come into it.
He doesn’t want to roll the dice and it suits everyone.

A few years ago, I had an altercation and was very happy I would win in court, but I was told, a loss would be jail time. I was happy I was in the right, the CPS were happy I was not. 30 mins before I was offered a 50hrs Community Service for a guilty plea to a much lesser charge...I took it. The worst case scenario was worse than one I could live with.

If you’ve bought a perfectly steamed item of clothing in a charity shop in SE London, I hope you’re happy with it wink

Appears to have pulled a zimmerframe out of a skip and found a terrible suit to wear for his latest appearance?

If you’ve the money and are the alleged sometimes you don’t want the stress or publicity. So grudgingly pay them off even if Totally innocent.

The cries of #metoo and #timesup go awfully quiet when $25m compo is at stake. Got to love female empowerment.

Radio 4 item this morning stated that Weinstein won't lose a penny, the compensation payments will be met by insurance policies held by the film studio.

Can some push the civil action to go further. Who decides/decided this was acceptable. The 25m pot is also for future cases.

30 civil cases here yet only 2 criminal cases.

The company is in Chapter 11, possibly moving to Chapter 7 liquidation. There were also suggestions that he might file for personal bankruptcy.

My understanding is that he’s reached a tentative settlement with “some”. And others are not accepting the proposal.

He can pay them off but it doesn't mean he escapes prosecution. Besides he didn't pay the settlement, his insurance policy did.

I don't think the insurance policy is 'his'. Think it's an indemnity by the studio companies to avoid corporate Class actions by millions of people.

This isn't the Twitter-sewer.

Do you think someone who physically incapacitates another person would be any better than Weinstein himself?
