Hi Guys

I have an old Trek EX9.8 that i use for night runs while away at work.

It has a Fox RP23 (discontinued) that will no longer hold air pressure so thought I would ask what would be a direct replacement?

Thx

Have you changed the seals in the fox shock as it could potentially just be a case of the shock needing servicing?

The replacement would be another shock with same eye to eye length and travel. If you want a similar feel then a shock with a similar tune would be the best option. Do you know what the eye to eye length is and the travel? Or at least the bike year so you can look it up?

Hi Ben

The bike is a 2009. I have yet to take the shock off so have not measured the length eye to eye.

The issue is that when I add air it only stays in for around a day!

Place I use will charge £40 for a shock service including seals/bushes. Sounds like it's well worth a try.

I've an RP2 and mine is still going strong although only about 5 years old.

I've a 2012 RP23, I got my mate to service it last year, got the seal kit from TF Tuned. I suspect it's fixable for not a lot of money.

If you must replace it I'd suggest a Fox Float X, rode one in the Alps last year, really nice. I've got the Float X2 on my new bike and wish I could have the simplicity of the X.

As above, replacing the air chamber seals is really easy.

I did mine in about 20 minutes with no special tools following a youtube video. It's only servicing the damping elements that is more complicated. I think a seal kit was about £15-20.

My Fox Float RP2 literally went bang this weekend. The two halves of the casing parted and it sounded like a shotgun going off!
