The university in question seems dangerously close to suggesting that all Germans of the period were evil. Rommel had the good fortune to be based in North Africa and so not involved in the war crimes committed by so many of his fellow Generals in Russia and as you say was involved in a plot to assassinate Hitler.
To use a quote by Rommel should be as uncontroversial as using a quote by Napoleon.

So much for the educated today, eh?
They should be called the petrified. Petrified of their own f shadows...
It probably went like this:
'No, I don't recognise that name next to the quote, so?'
'Hang on, you're telling me what? I've quoted someone from the war?'
'You've quoted him. The Desert Rat. Rommel.'
'Which war?'
'Rommel who?'
'He was a German. A brilliant tactician. He wasn't crafty, in fact he was a bit of a softie, he used to gift medical supplies to the enemy and didn't really go too hard on prisoners. He also actually didn't like Hitler. At all. In fact, he was involved in the Valkyrie.'
'Yes, yes, apart from wtf is the Valkyrie, I'm hearing all that ...but was he a Nazi?'
'Yes.'
'Oh my god!' 'Oh my god!'(again).
'Scrub it!'
'FFS scrub the quote...
Now!'
'Apologise, apologise, apologise... NOW!'
Schnell! Schnell!
Adult conversation seem to be hard to find. There is a lack of conceptual thought and being able to have a discussion without taking any clear side. Everything seems to need to be a black or white, right or wrong answer there is no nuance or shades of gray.
For example you say the Nazis did do some impressive things with regards to engineering your instantly a Nazis sympathiser.
I do wonder when we all need to start feeling ashamed of achieving the truly great feet of putting man on the moon? As it was a German Nazi scientist who pretty much design the rocket that got us there.

Whilst I agree with you about Nazi inventions, don't forget most of them were built on the back of slave labour.
caused ethical issues in WWII IIRC - the Nazis used concentration camp victims to assess how long people could survive various situations. The allies were conflicted as to whether they could make use of this knowledge due to the way it was attainedGassing Station | News, Politics & Economics | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
