I've mentioned it on the other thread, surely the Irish should have another referendum?
Why?
Things have changed.
Why stop at two anyway?
ahhh so its something you would like to see but not really a serious proposal

i fear you may well be disappointed
No,no,they might want to leave now.
Surely things have changed since the last one so there should be another one?

Depends on WTO rules. We cant just ignore WTO unless we unilaterally offer free trade and regulatory equivalence. Difficult if their product regulations are at odds with our own, it would mean us being forced to shadow EU regulation..
What makes you think we will not shadow EU regulations? If we want to trade with them at anything like the level we currently are then we'll have to stick with them.

But who is proposing a hard border? Not the UK.
That's what brexit means, a hard border. We have decided that's what certain sections of the UK want. Other parts have pointed out the problem. We can't just throw a tantrum.

If a hard border is imposed, and that's what brexit means, there will be problems in Ireland.
We dont shadow USA regulations. If we want to trade with the USA we simply meet their import requirements. A hard border has customs posts at the border, we are not proposing that.

Bertie Ahern was on Today this morning.

His view was pre-registered virtual/electronic border for bigger trade and don’t worry about the small stuff.
His solution seems pretty sensible.

Not going to be a popular suggestion but how about just giving Northrn Ireland back to the Republic and have a unified Ireland?

Take a breath and consider , border issue solved, financial burden on the rest of UK Plc gone and any troubles that might kick off by Loyalists would be Irelands issue.

And Sinn Fein would be over the moon.

Job jobbed as they say.

Yeah. Except, it's Bertie Ahern. The guy who didn't even have a bank account. Now held in widespread contempt by everybody in Ireland. Even his own political party expelled him.

But that is not for us to decide ,If it was then they to would have the right to demand we had another vote on brexit and i am sure you would not think it was their place to do that.

And the tory party looses it's majority in the commons sounds like a win win to me

I expect the EU will push for another Irish vote then.

I think the WW captures the situation pretty concisely:

Tie it in with the boundary changes and I don't believe they will smile ("loses", btw).

You see the dup staying in cahoots with the torys if they gave northern ireland to the south do you?

I can not see any loyalist party agreeing to the uk giving up NI for the sake of brexit.

Why do you think the EU would push for a vote in Ireland on leaving the EU?

Brexiteers get jolly cross when the EU doesn't try to interfere with their members' sovereignty - and supports them in their decisions instead.

It really spoils the narrative.

What has amused me this evening is FCR,s attempt to fold back slashers argument about a second, third ,fourth vote.

painfully obvious from the beginning.

Funny enough, the DUP would be shuffled off out of Westminster in such a scenario. Cahoots would no longer be an option for either party..

Of course, joining EFTA would more or less avoid all this bks and kick the whole issue into the long grass.
