And what of that pesky ruination of peace thing?
You are not suggesting that one of the main issues is appeasement of nationalist terrorists?

Oh, sorry, yes you are.

So, if the UK crashes out of the EU with no deal it will be able to put whatever border it likes, including no controls at all between NI and the republic.

The boot would then be on the other foot because the republic would have to set up some kind of border controls at the behest of the EU, and it would be up them how they do it.

I would imagine that there will be lorry loads of asylum seekers heading straight through an open border into the UK and lorries backed up for miles trying to get out of the UK. wink
Seriously ? Just because they will have got into the EU through its southern border doesn't mean that it will be so easy to get from there to the RoI - or do you think the people smugglers will include the cost of an air ticket from Rome/Athens/wherever to Dublin in their tariff ? Or maybe just pop them on a dinghy like the ones used for crossing the relatively benign Med, but to get from say Brest around the Scillies and up to Cork ?
Is that it? Is that the plan on how to control immigration via that border? Geography???
Movement of people is not an issue.

According to the Irish PM, the EU has confirmed that no physical checks will be required at the NI border even if there is a no deal Brexit.

So that's it.
Excellent. So if any Brits want to export themselves or their stuff into the EU without any visa or customs nonsense, that's the way to do it!

Is the ROI leader deluded / stupid or rattled to threaten to ban UK aircraft from ROI skies?

News today is that 'no deal' will include a border in the Irish Sea, thus dividing the Union and throwing the DUP under the bus.

Why doesn't 'no deal' mean no deal? If they want a border, let the EU impose one.

On the Irish side, and perhaps on ours too, I wonder is there is any thought that Brexit can be used to bring closer the unification of the island of Ireland?

Nice to know.

When there is no deal the problem of the border will be up the EU to sort out. Let's see what they come up with.

A problem caused by the UK deciding to go Brexit (a perfectly legitimate decision, I'll hasten to add.) So that's the attitude is it? Cause a problem then expect someone else to sort it out?
You miss the point - it will not be the UK's problem any more. It wil be up to the EU to decide what to do.

The border will be in the Irish Sea and the Unionists will have to lump it.

I called it a while ago. Boris has thrown the DUP under the bus. Probably the best place for them. He is good at buses.

In a couple of generations there will be a united Ireland and Varadkar will claim in his memoirs that that is what he wanted all along.

Not a bad thing really.

Well well, seems Boris was lying about the border down the Irish sea again!

As long as he gets enough votes in England he doesn't give 2 fks about the rest of the UK.

If 900,000 unionists/loyalists get sold down the river in N.I it will take generations to sort out.
Yes but Unionists are not going to start bombing GB are they?

Irish issue for Irish people to sort out. NI was only supposed to be temporary anyway.

Erm, what?
In my view the island of Ireland should be united into one country.
I think it will be, in time. Ideally, Ireland would join GB in a Greater British Isles union, with leadership rotating between England, Scotland and Ireland.

That worked well for Yugoslavia.
It did, until Tito died. Even now you see his portrait up in cafes and restaurants. Do we have anyone close to inspiring that level of adulation?
Boris.
