Apparently, guns don't kill people, schools do.

A 16-year-old boy who killed two students and wounded three others at his southern California high school before turning a gun on himself died on Friday without investigators discovering the motive for the attack.
Nathaniel Tennosuke Berhow died from a head wound. His mother was present when he died, according to a Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department statement.
Berhow, described by friends as quiet but funny and likeable, showed no outward signs of violence prior to the attack.
After more than 40 interviews, police still do not know what prompted him to commit such a crime, said Captain Kent Wegener of the department’s homicide unit. He said no manifesto, diary or suicide note had been found.
“It still remains a mystery why,” sheriff Alex Villanueva told a press conference. He said it was “a planned attack, it was deliberate”, but “we don’t have” the details behind it.

Four men were shot dead and six others wounded while watching a football game in the backyard of a central California home, police said.

A gunman started shooting after entering the backyard of a south Fresno home where a gathering of family and friends was watching an American football game last night.

Police said neighbours flooded 911 dispatchers with calls for help.

The suspect fled the scene and police are searching the neighbourhood, which is about 320km north of Los Angeles, for witnesses and possible security camera footage.

If only there had been more good guys with guns about - that's the problem really - not enough guns involved
Wat you need is civilians trained to shoot at static paper targets, all getting involved in police/criminal shootouts - would certainly help things significantly IMO

Isnt it usually around 33,000 per year. That number seems high this year

Ah - In 2017, gun deaths reached their highest level in at least 40 years, with 39,773 deaths that year alone
Data is here. Seems it's rising https://www.cdc.gov/injury/wisqars/
