People must be dreading public support by TM by now.https://www.theguardian.com/media/2018/jan/09/toby...
When ever there is a controversy, and the PM (of any party) gives you their full backing, its just code for start packing up your desk now.
"has the full confidence of the board" must turn blood to ice.
Perhaps Toby Young did get the job via the old boy's network but it seems to me that someone who's spent time working and helping to innovate in education but who is not a member of the quangocracy that runs it would be an idea candidate - Twitter history or not.
This smacks of a different 'old boys' network, the left-leaning education establishment (plus of course the usual suspects with not a hint of irony) presiding over the hounding out an outsider from their comfortable club where tolerance is preached but not practiced.
An opportunity to have a dissenting voice has been lost and although they seem to currently think this is a victory, students will lose out because of it I feel.

There are plenty of other candidates with more experience from every context. This smacks of a different 'old boys' network, the left-leaning education establishment (plus of course the usual suspects with not a hint of irony) presiding over the hounding out an outsider from their comfortable club where tolerance is preached but not practiced.

This has nothing to do with the "lefties". TY is a waste of oxygen. Plenty of people have set up all kinds of schools in more challenging settings than him. The ringing endorsement from Boris Johnson is the clincher for me: another one who makes lots of noise but gets little done.

Yes but he was the only one to be commissioned by Boris Johnson to write for the Spectator, who then went on to become Home Secretary along with his brother who in turn hired Toby Young for a plum job in the government. And this is how it all actually works in real life.

The hand on BJ's left shoulder goes with the grey suit behind him.<edit> No, wait. The one between Young and BJ is the wrong hand to be Young's. Odd.
they're among us I tell you
Young clearly jumped before he was pushed. This revelation in the Private Eye surely would have got him sacked.

Several errors of both commission and omission in there, then again correcting them would make a less titillating (bapivating?!) tale to soothe lefties. The left-wing bias in the ex-teacher's commentary is as notable as any right-wing bias in defence of WLFS.turbobloke said:

This really all boils down to the extremist metropolitan Left not wanting a Tory on a cosy quango that can influence young people and their future leanings (votes).
Typical pattern of behaviour and control-freakery by the nasty red Left.
Dig up a minor comment from the past, smear them as a hate crime, and then keep pounding until they go away. Replace with Left-friendly person on cosy quango.

Ah Yipper, it was all making sense until your markov chain generator went a bit Joe McCarthy. Why would the left be able to replace anyone from their position as... the Opposition? It's an open goal for the Tories to place whoever they want in whatever Cabinet post they want - some of them might even be able to cope with being disliked while in that role.

Well it is actually a minor post in a minor quango, but still we saw the hysteria that resulted. Including the Private Eye article above, which appears, based on Toby Young's response to be a gross misrepresentation of his actual views on the subject and indeed past actions.Unless the government is willing to ignore the MSM, then on many areas it will be in office but not in power.
