Is that how major construction projects work in your world? Complete the planning process and then estimate costs?
You forgot the first step. High-profile press release, THEN plan, finally estimate costs.
It's the Boris way.
As approved by His Royal Mooseiness.
Starting to think it might actually be Boris' PH account.
I thought BoJo was FCR?
The PH way, yappy little dog syndrome.
Pathetic and sad

Which is why the proposal that competed with the Channel Tunnel, back in the early 80's was IIRC, a part bridge/part tunnel. IIRC, the idea was to build two islands either side of the main shipping lanes, which would be tunnel portals, and allow for buildings for maintenance and emergency teams etc., with a short road tunnel under the shipping lanes with a bridge/causeway linking these 'islands' to the mainland on either side.
A bridge all the way across just isn't feasible.
MartG's correct, one of the proposals for the Channel link was a pair of suspension bridges, with a tunnel section between them.

Someone needs to check their quotes tags, as, that was my post, not MartG confused

Why don't we just landfill the channel with all of the rubbish that is no longer going to China and create a permanent land bridge. The water could be routed into big turbines so the tidal flow generates power. Ships could just go around Scotland.

Some fine and noble words. Who is going to pay for Bozo's Bridge?
Do you not understand how government works?? You are going to pay for that bridge. (If it ever gets built)

So far then we've had:

Boris Airport (including bridges);

Boris Garden Bridge (£40m spent, without anything to show);

Boris Channel Bridge; and now

Boris Scotland-NI Bridge. He must think he is Finn McCool.

He is in fact a massive bullstter.

He sure is a muppet......

Not even sure any of what has been written in that article has any substance anyway.......?

It's about 20-21 miles across the Irish Sea at any logical point for a crossing, not 14 miles, so someone has already done their sums wrong to begin with.
Only place its closer is the route across from Torr to tip of the peninsular south of Campbeltown, which would make no logical sense whatsoever given how far you have to drive north up the peninsular and back down again, on less than adequate roads.

Publicity seeking non-story as usual.

Yes - all the points on the mainland nearest to NI are really far from centres of population and the motorway network, so traffic using any potential bridge would be sparse

It is fantastic that Boris is laying the foundations for all these bridge-building projects, and I hope that he continues to contribute to the foundations in the not too distant future.

But he get's links. He gets publicity. He gets his face in the news. He gets - well let's hope he doesn't get the job he's after.
