No, it isn’t. Read the Second Amendment. It’s just interpreted by the NRA and gun people as being that way.

In reality, the Second Amendment is an anachronistic hangover from Independence days designed to allow local militias to resist tyranny. It is not and never was int need to allow the proliferation of guns América has today.
And again, the 'well regulated' part of it seems not to be as vociferously pursued as the 'right to bear arms' part.

As we have discovered in the UK a ban on guns does not really do much to reduce gun crime, because it only really penalized law abiding, registered and responsible gun owners,( a lot like several other laws in the UK) whilst doing little or nothing towards keeping guns out of the hands of those who want to use guns for criminal activities.
If you are pissed off IT contractor (e.g. most of the people on NPE) you can write a post on the internet blaming all the failures you encounter on the political left. What you can't do is going into a supermarket, buy a gun and start killing people. Unless you are already moving in criminal circles your chances of getting a gun on the black market are low.

This makes society a safer place. The only downside is a few people have to find a new hobby. Generally speaking pissed for IT contractors are these days covering themselves in lycra a clogging up country roads on bikes. As annoying as that is it's better than them playing with guns.

Exactly this - I think Jim Jefferies has this one right in one of his stand up shows.. American's say it can't be changed because it's their 2nd amendment rights - He covers this one off with "of course it can be changed, that's why it's called and amendment"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0rR9IaXH1M0&li... quite probably NSFW

And this one.. where he talks about the 2nd amendment.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a9UFyNy-rw4&li... again NSFW

I genuinely can't believe that Trump has actually basically now said, " the way to deal with guns is more guns" - Surely if this happens, the next teacher who gets tipped over the edge by unruly kids in class will be the next "mass shooting"

There are so many problems with Trump's moronic suggestion (presumably phone in by the NRA): who trains the teachers? Who selects them? What happens when an unruly fifteen year old grabs at the teacher's gun in class? What happens when RamboTeacher misses the shooter and kills or mains an innocent kid?

It's utterly stupid.

How sad is it that this is seen as necessary?

Seen that he's been defended by a few for having a crib sheet for the session, apparently a lot of politicians have them for meetings etc given the large amount of info that they often require during Q&A's on varying topics which is fair enough IMHO.
I'd be amazed if any other politician in history had to write down "I hear you" to remind themselves to say it after listening to victims of an attack speak.

Some would say it makes the statement less sincere when so obviously scripted.

fking insulting and shows how crap he is at thinking about things in the moment. That’s why if he ever gets questioned by Mueller about anything it will be an absolute stshow.

Who pays for the guns? Many people say that the school system in the USA is already broken and poor (public schools this is) and they don't have the budget for new books or teaching aids... but guns, and security measures, oh yes, spend spend spend!

I also think that the type of person who wants to help educate little minds is not a skill which overlaps with small arms and weapons proficiency.. unless perhaps you start learning your .22 times table...

Of course, and it just ensures that when angry johnny first pulls his gun, he shoots the teacher first. Almost no one in the middle of their normal day, is going to watching their six every second for an armed teenager coming their way.

What will the other teaching staff do when they hear gunfire ? Call the police, or make a stand. Well duh they will still run and get help.

Finally, what now happens when a teacher is "pushed to the limit" first time, and its only a matter of time when angry math teacher with personal problems blows a kid away - then what

It is such bullst it would be hilarious if it wasn't so utterly tragic.

I watched Kindergarten Cop and in that documentary the teacher had a gun and he saved the kids, so you know, something to think about.

And of course, because it is America, there actually has been an armed teacher who has stopped a school shooting, and he thinks giving guns to teachers is a bad idea.

Especially as even Trump as identified, most shooters have already reached a point where they are extremely mentally unstable. Most know that they are very likely going to die or intend to commit suicide before being caught.

However I am not sure calling them "sicko" is very helpful, perhaps investing in mental health programs and making schools more inclusive of different ways of thinking would be better.

"Empathy" is completely lacking in Trump. He has not a single shred of humanity in his bones.

Anyway, here's Trumps recommendation for the next school head appointee -

The American arms industry must be massive and the players must have some very interesting ties. We'd rather let our kids die than get our snouts out the trough.
Same game plan as the tobacco industry.
And not the car industry let us not forget. The car manufacturers rather than spending money on car safety such as seat belts tried to put the onus always on the driver being the blame. Good drivers, bad drivers. Heard it recently anywhere else?

Good guys and bad guys both kill if not helped.
