And what gains popularity? Exposure.

How do you get exposure? Well, saying something controversial certainly helps, as has been demonstrated here.
Well he was already popular prior to the Brits this week, hence his awards.

And clearly he doesn't cater to the larger demographic on this thread but that doesn't make him any less popular does it.

What sort of demographic is interested in the Brits??
No idea, but I watched it, a slightly overweight middles aged white Tory voting bloke married to an actual woman living in Newcastle. Maybe not Mr Stormzy's target audience or even a grime fan, but I've certainly heard his music.

hehe I was going to post exactly the same but with the added fact that I don't live in the UK and I still know who he is.

But how will people on the internet know that you're better than them if you don't pretend not to have heard of popular musicians?

Thankfully you lot are a dying breed.

Vast swathes of our youth generation who just so happen to be the future of this country listen to his music and music just like it - of all colours and creeds.

Times are changing.

I think you'll find that this isn't the first generation of 'youth' who has an axe to grind. Take a merry trip back through rock'n'roll, the hippy years, punk, grunge, etc etc

The times are just on 'repeat' but don't let that spoil your little rave wink

Maybe a few hours watching youTube episodes of 'The Young Ones' would enlighten his outlook on just how unique his oppressed generation's radical protests are....

To be honest I thought he was supporting your view.

Presumably the middle aged moaners on here were doing stuff their parents and grandparents disapproved of when they were younger? But somehow they don't seem to appreciate the current youth doing the same.

I assumed he used the word "savages" because it rhymed with "damages"....

Which I suppose is quite clever.

But not at all correct.
It's nothing like as clever as making skyfall rhyme with crumble.

Because they know it's a waste of time.

Rick went around saying how great communism and socialism were and called anyone he disagreed with a fascist, so he would have been the perfect Corbynista

hehe

I wouldn't expect them to get it.

Diversity and common goals that intersect racial lines can only improve this country. If that isnt change, I don't know what is.

In the interest of making factual statements rather than spreading false information in order to cause unrest, can anyone provide a source to Theresa May calling the residents of Grenfell tower "savages"?

I don't know...maybe she could rap:

"I'm not calling you savages;
please accept these welfare support packages"

I’m not sure that is what Stormzy was implying, from my point of view he was saying there is an "us and them" mentality and perhaps the people of Grenfell felt that was how they were made to feel.

The use of "savages" was extreme but perhaps that is what was required to get people talking. Just my view.

But if 'they' don't get it, how will it change things? Wouldn't it be better to say something thought provoking, witty, clever, intelligent even, like that you may broaden the audience...

So no one actually used the word "savages" until Stormzy himself then? rolleyes

It's an easy way of appealing to his audience I expect, misinformation for the feckless who won't bother to check facts, they just want something to feel angry about.
