I am looking at a Honda CRV as the next family wagon. Within my budget (12k max) the following engine choices are available:

- 2.0 Petrol
- 2.2 Diesel
- 1.6 Diesel

Annual mileage will be approx 9k a year, With 2 and 6 hour trips to see family every few months.

Straight away I thought petrol due to our mileage. However reading a few other posts it seems the diesel engines are more suited to the car?

I've had both petrol and diesel and have to say the diesel is much more suited to it, especially in automatic guise.

The petrol isn't slow by any means but needs revving and it does become a bit tiresome imo.

The gen 4 diesel I have now is a comfortable cruiser and in ex spec has everything you need.

In automatic form mpg will be around 29 in a petrol, 38 in the diesel

I'd say the 2.2d but you'll have to take it on a run once a month.

I had a 1.6 Diesel, manual in a 2015 model. I didn't want one, but getting the AWD Petrol didn't appeal to me. Also wasn't doing the mileage for a diesel, but much cheaper on the lease. 1.6 was fine for the car.

Thanks for all the replies. Ended up putting a deposit down on a 2.0D Rav 4 Invincible at the weekend, low mileage high spec and managed to get a really good deal on it. Cant wait to pick it up!
