Latest EU cars VS the UK equivalent? (Differences?)
Discussion
Any expert can help me find the differences between EU cars and UK equivalent?
Engine? Regulations? Just marketing so they dont undercut the EU dealer??
Caterham UK will not give EU homologation for UK cars but will register your EU car in the UK...
How do people take the car to France/Spain if they want to retire there?
Cheers
(Im UK based btw)

I'm out of date, but I know a few years ago there were some significant differences.
The EU cars meet Euro 6 emissions while UK cars just have to meet MOT emissions tests.
The EU cars I have seen have drive by wire throttle, catalyst much closer to the engine inside the engine bay and a rear exit exhaust. I have spoken to a German owner who really wanted to fit a side exit exhaust, but can't because the car has to remain as it was approved for low volume approval.
Caterham take this seriously, I was at the showroom when someone tried to buy a LHD kit to take abroad. They were very firm that kits were only for UK use.

I bought a French 275 SV new last year. The dealer said that the difference was EU6. However, if you look at the option packs, then you'll see that they're also not directly comparable. If buying a 270 in the UK, I'd have bought the S pack, but in the EU, the things that I wanted were either included or cheaper to add on separately, plus some things are included in the base spec that are extras in the UK. It looks like either a realisation that EU markets are different to the UK or to muddy the waters for comparison purposes.
On the positive side, I was able to negotiate a reduction on the higher list price. Registering a kit or even one of the 7's that isn't homologated for the rest of the EU (like a 310) is a nightmare in France.

I think, like anything, it depends. It some countries you can register as a SVA equivalent as long as you have a valid MOT (if it is a UK car). At least this is valid for Italy and believe Germany. I know because I sold a lotus (audi engined) and a lotus (honda engined), both correctly registered. The COC meant diddly squat as the cars were modified. It`s not cheap I have to add...
For France, registering something that's EU homologated is easy (I registered a UK MX5 with a fee, a visit to the Prefecture and my local tax office). However, I took care not to buy a Japanese import.
What is difficult is something like a 7 where the UK spec isn't the same as what is homologate for the EU. It is an administrative nightmare - see the Sevener website for details.
