We are shortly having the outside of our house decorated. Some of our neighbours have their house number on the door as a roman numeral. Should we do the same, or is it a bit pretentious?

The number in question is 4 and the house is a regency town house.

Thanks

This.

Also, having just got back in after a visit to Tesco, where I was asked by the young chap on the till what a dozen was (when I told him I had said number of bottles of wine in the trolley instead of asking him to scan them individually), I wouldn't fancy your chances much if you ever get anything delivered by courier.

Put a "quattro" badge up instead. Pretentious and novel in equal measure.

Intrigued I checked what my house would be:

CXXX

was the answer - which I quite like. Tempted to have it backlit in frosted glass in the window above the front door (of the gatehouse obviously) to encourage double takes....

I want to do this.

But I'm at number 1. Or I. Maybe Greek?

Our old house had a number,(current one being PH has a name) I had it put on a silver on black numberplate,

as long as you can read the number from the road, no one really cares.
