Paid for parking for wrong car
Discussion
Help....my 1 series is in the garage and went to a usual car park with a courtesy car and stupidly paid for parking on Ringo for the car that’s in the garage. Is it worth appealing the subsequent fine if I can legitimately prove my car was in the garage and couldn’t possibly have been there?
I would appeal , depending where you parked Ringgo can make a decision on behalf of the car park operator , in other areas they don't have that deligated permission. So it will depend on the zone. If you made a genuine mistake you might get lucky.

I would not assume you will be fined, I have made all sorts of screw ups with station parking, wrong reg, wrong amount of time, wrong car park, completely forgetting to pay. Every time i have expected to be hit with a fine, but so far nothing, the car parks I've been using clearly have no anpr. I assume now compliance has become so high there is not enough revenue from the fines to justify the levels of enforcement that was starting to become normal a few years ago.

What's a 1 series? Is that a BMW, or something? Why does it matter what car is in the garage?I came home the other day to a letter from Athena for parking my car in a Lidl car park. Realised that my wife had taken my car to Lidl that day. Emailed them advising that my wife had been driving, enclosed a photo of the receipt and suggested they check their records as she probaly entered her own reg in the system.
3 days letter they replied withdrawing the charge. So some companies do allow for mistakes

Why do people not have any common sense nowadays and for the most simple things have to have to ask a random bunch of strangers what they should do; you are an adult, appeal the ticket, explaining what happened, it's not hard!
Happened to my wife last year, she parked up, paid via Ringo on her phone, returned to find a ticket, realise she had put in my reg rather than hers, she appealed it and guess what; a few weeks later the fine was cancelled.
We did all of the above without asking anyone on PH, let alone setting up an account to ask specifically.

Should be out spraying up pot holes.
Having worked in one of these companies, can confirm that an honest mistake by a customer is normally treated sympathetically.
Entering the wrong car wasn’t that uncommon. We also used to get other situations, such as customers paying using the right code but in the wrong app (some people literally weren’t aware that more than one car parking firm exists). So they’d park the car in Swindon, but have actually paid for a car park in Alaska... We also once had someone enter the location code (eg 5372) as the number of hours, which was a bit of an unpleasant surprise when they saw the charge.
We continually worked on the design to try and catch these things, and do everything possible to make the customer aware before they did something daft. But with millions of people parking every day, many in a hurry when parking, we could never totally guarantee they wouldn’t select the wrong thing (not without making the app tedious to use for the 99.999999% who were getting it right anyway).
So most parking firms are quite used to a few ‘oops’ situations cropping up each week, and should be reasonably understanding.

Firstly....I was only trying to find out if other people have had the same experience. I have already appealed.
Secondly....I didn’t set my account up just to post about this. I know I haven’t posted before but set the account up as I had an issue with my car which has since been resolved due to reading these forums.

He wasn't asking what he should do, he was asking what we thought his chances were if he were to appeal. Now he's heard tales of success and will hopefully be a little happier today and have some peace of mind whilst he awaits the outcome of his appeal.
Having created an account and posted hopefully he will have a look around the rest of the site and go on to become a valued member of the community. Especially as all the replies to his post were so friendly.... Oh, wait...
Welcome to PH Weeskie. Good luck with the appeal.

You're an ass mate, the whole point of a forum is to encourage discussion. This thread has done that in a perfectly reasonable way, from a new member. If everyone had your attitude this forum would close by weeks end.My initial thought would be that OP wouldn't stand a chance, parking firms bring as notorious as they are.
The fact that this clearly doesn't appear to be as clear cut has educated me, and helped me build a different opinion.
The train car park I use is managed by RingGo, so this thread could actually be of real help to me one day.

I’ve done exactly the same thing with RingGo when parking at a train station. I realised at the time what I’d done and bought another parking session to cover the correct car. Ended up going through the train company who immediately refunded the incorrect session, so might be worth going through whoever owns the car park in case your appeal doesn’t go through.

Surprised and impressed that worked for you, Juggsy. Parking payment is normally outsourced to firms like RingGo so would expect the train firm to refer you there first. That’s great customer service that they dealt with it themselves.Gassing Station | Speed, Plod & the Law | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
