Mo Farah at the airport
Discussion
Looks like he kicked off about a security check and then got bundled out for illegal filming in a sensitive security area at the airport.

Do you get the feeling that sometime before he started filming the words ‘do you know who I am?’ or something similar were used
Regardless of what may or may not have happened with this incident, he is a knight of the realm and one of our most decorated Olympians. In a time when 'celebrity' has never been easier to achieve, he probably does deserve a bit of special treatment.Murph7355 said:

This doesn’t entitle him to special treatment and I think he was over anxious to press the victim button.

You don't consider a knighthood to be significant then?
Not the ones gifted to the majority of athletes/celebs, no. And no matter whose the knighthood is, in the circumstances noted I would always be inclined to think "what kicked it off".
IF he elicited the treatment through his own actions then his status of whatever flavour is totally irrelevant. Indeed you might well argue that someone with a knighthood should be raising the bar when it comes to dealing with authority, not needing to be in receipt of special treatment.

Pretty much sums it up. Running is his job. If we gave everyone who did their job well knighthoods there'd be a lot more knights. I utterly fail to understand why we hold sports people in such high regard.
There is nothing wrong with holding them in high regard. Often they are great role models for kids etc. But he has been amply rewarded for his Olympic achievements etc - a right old haul of gold (and a silver) and will be earning a st ton of money. And so he should.
If he followed that through with decades of selfless payback in the line of his work then maybe a knighthood and further reverence might also be warranted.
(I'm also unsure how much anyone in Germany gives a toss about a UK honour).

Simples, the masses like their celebrities. The Royals/Politicians give them to a handful of actors/sports stars/bloke who did shopping for old people so the awards stay relevant in the minds of the public, and also takes up the headlines meaning they can then sneak the other 99% of the awards to the cronies and donors.mcdjl said:

Was always thus. Our school had ‘colours’ which could be awarded to pupils for acheivement. In reality what this actually meant was - you got them by default if you were on the school football or rugby teams - regardless of how well you played or how well the team did.
I cant recall colours ever being awarded for academic achievement.
