Yes, that's absolutely all he did.
Pretty much sums it up. Running is his job. If we gave everyone who did their job well knighthoods there'd be a lot more knights. I utterly fail to understand why we hold sports people in such high regard.
You don't think that there might have been a massive degree of commitment to the sort of training regime that would cripple many people? Or huge personal sacrifice in order to become the best out of bunch of elite athletes who are all capable of superhuman feats? No, he 'just ran a bit'.

We give plenty of people knighthoods for just doing their jobs - if they are demonstrably one of the best in the world at doing that job.

"did their job well", he is the best in the world at his job which is probably worth some recognition.

It seems that being the best at something entitles you to be an absolute ahole.

You don't consider a knighthood to be significant then?
I'd say higher standards are expected of those who have been knighted. I don't think I've seen high standards.

Perhaps I live under some sort of stone, or more likely inside some sort of celeb media vacuum, but very surprised at the levels of animosity/hate displayed here, even for NPE.

i guess my problem is that i work in the development industry which crosses into academia. As a result i regularly meet people who are best in the world at their job, make far more useful contribution than any sports person to the world and get far less recognition. Bitter? Maybe. Sports people run/jump for their 8 hours a day. The rest of us sit at a desk/in a factory/in a lab etc.

That story paints him as an absolute knob. He wouldnt even let a couple with a baby walk up a hill as he was using it? Deserved a pasting.
How the fk does anybody get into a physical fight with a couple pushing a baby on Christmas Day?
Well, if you present yourself as a fking arrogant knob it obviously isn't too difficult, as he has managed prove.

Steady, that's a "Sir" you are referring to. They warrant special treatment.

The unfortunate thing about stories like this is that they sometimes unearth all sorts of stuff that make you wonder whether the respect you had for someone was warranted or not. On the basis of that story, he definitely sounds like a knob.

It's just German officialdom in uniform, "doing their job". I think they have some history of doing that.

Also, in my experience the bar for "racism" is set a lot higher in Germany especially where black people from Africa are concerned.

I have never got this mindset of a lot of the British public who will accept anyone as "British" if they can kick a ball, run a bit fast. It is not a colour issue it is just our seemingly desperation to call someone British who is seen as a winner.

He has spent most of his time living in the States as well since finding fame and a not inconsiderable fortune from his skill.

I have no idea if he is a drug cheat but that one story he wrote confirms a problem that suggest his entitled attitude is an issue. As someone else posted about his experience being Brown in airports had no problems ever.

The only one of my mates who are none white which had any issues was when flying out on a business trip, Phil who is a huge Black guy had just had braided corn extensions fitted, was wearing very casual clothes with a T shirt with a picture of weed on it and was surprised when his bag was the only one searched.

When it was pointed out he couldn't have looked more dodgy if he tried he just burst out laughing as he realised why he was searched. Not one has had any issues but they are normal people and do not display any attitude.

Elite sportspeople are genetically at the absolute peak of physical fitness and that makes them biologically very important and desirable to other humans. That is why they get famous and rich. Rewards flow to the best.

For 99% of human history and evolution, if you needed someone to chase down your dinner, or escape a marauding tribe, to feed and safeguard your family, you're going to prefer a person who can run 50 miles without breaking a sweat, rather than a fat dude who can't even keep his cave clean.

I'm not seeing any hate or animosity.

I'm seeing a lot of people that see a pattern of behaviour from Mo, who aren't surprised by his actions, and are perhaps a little more cynical of whatever PR image he seeks to portray on a given day (and also the convenient timing).

Some people see or hear something they disagree with, and put it down to "hate". I just accept that there are opposing viewpoints, even if I don't agree with them.

I’ll bet if his Nigelness got a knighthood there’d be calls on PH for him to get red carpet treatment everywhere.

If Marc Almond can get an OBE then Nige can get a knighthood. I don't think any of these awards deserves special treatment for anyone.
Also, I doubt very much Nige will go around with the "don't you know who I am?", or claiming racism, as we all know only white people can be racist

confused the idiots taking up the full path were in the wrong. Some of these paths are narrow and it is natural behaviour for anyone with half a brain to move into single file when anyone approaches either from the opposite direction, or from behind and will overtake.

Unless you are the absent minded type who is also guilty of this and so taking it personally?
