Gendarme on site a bit of a hero. Gave himself over in a hostage exchange and kept a covert phone line open so security forces knew what was going on.

Hope he's OK after being shot for his trouble.
Indeed.

"Hero" is a much overused term.

This man has done something that most people, most definitely including me, would not have the courage to do.

I salute his bravery, selflessness, and courage and hope that he pulls through.

One of the bravest things I’ve heard of in a long, long time.

That was cold courage, not many have the balls for that kind of act.

Salute Sir. RIP.

Relax.

I think our force do brilliantly considering what they are constantly up against these days.

I, for one, couldn’t do what they do.

So what was "Ours would have been dancing around like a bunch of fking fairies" all about? Or were you just in an advanced state of refreshment for early Friday evening?

He should get the highest bravery award that France issues, unbelievably bravery.

You sound like an utterly hateful person of the sort that does nothing at all to find any solutions to the world's problems.

Here here, these sort of actions show why terrorism will never win, to make this choice in a split second shows where his heart is, to fight against every instinct in your body that's evolved for self preservation and put yourself in this sort of situation for the benifit of others shows what true heroes do, the sane as throwing yourself on a grenade era. There should be some sort of rule about using the word hero to ensure its correctly used in these situations and not when a bus driver swerves to avoid a car, that's a natural self preservation instinct what this guy did was selfless.

As with the other Phers who responded to that post, I was commenting on the second line, not the first.
