This is one thing Australia and the UK has really done well, our societies are geared to letting people integrate. Of course it happens over time and I mean generations for the process to complete. What we don't do and is quite different to Americans, is create ghettos. What ethnicity you are does not dictate where you live. For integration to occur we need to let cultures mix.
Wow, how did you form that opinion of the UK?

The opposite of "multi culture" is "mono culture". If the OP is in favour of a mono culture, does he have a specific mono culture in mind?
If everything is multi cultural, you'll end up with no culture at all. Some cultures are better than others.
Which culture do you think is the best one?

Do you, by any chance, consider yourself to be part of this "better" culture?
I don't think there's a best or worst, every one will have it's own positives and negatives. Some are better suited to liberalism than others.
Surely ours has to be best, otherwise we would all have moved to the third world ?

The fact that they all come here suggests we have something good going for us ?

I think what the poster was getting at is that the lack of social mobility is based on poverty, rather than the fact of their ethnicity.

It'd definitely true that certain ethnicities are more likely to be poor.

Can we list any cultural benefits of having;

Pakistanis

Chinese

Australians

French

Living in the country ?

I have been to Turkey a couple of times, I enjoyed it, ate their food saw their historic sights.

Do I see or does the country get any benefit from a Turkish Community living in North London ?

The majority of ethnic minorities are poor, therefore their social mobility will be poor.

This, thank you. You can live where ever you can afford regardless of where you're from. Whilst not quite completely egalitarian, it's really the best any society based on scarcity can manage and we're a long way from a society that isn't based on scarcity.

The point is, poor white and blacks will live in the same areas, to boil it down to a simple explanation.

It was the point of the thread

"has it failed" ?

If there are no benefits, I would assume it has failed.

They aren't, unless they are financial burden to the UK, but in our Multi cultural society do they bring any benefits.

Ghetto mentality is always the main issue. It does eventually fade out - although often the ghetto is filled up with a new ethnic group as the old inhabitants move out. It takes a few generations for this to happen.

Nope, the point of the thread is that the OP didn't understand what multiculturalism is.

And as long as it keeps people like you upset, there's a huge upside to it.

But as for it failing, it hasn't failed if there are no benefits, it only fails if a monoculture takes over and that has never occurred in the history of the United Kingdom (or most of England for that matter).

"the simple question is - has it failed in the UK? (I can't see an option to set this as a poll)."

If this country fails it won't be because of multiculturalism, it will due to a cataclysmic financial event. Or a war.

I like living in a multicultural country. It adds to the general gaiety of life.

I appreciate you don't like it. That's up to you. It's a good time to be against multiculturalism as there are quite a few mainstream political operators who agree and you can express your views without having the resort to EDL/BNP etc.

Multiculturalism isn't a "goal". Nobody, in Government or elsewhere, has set out to "achieve" it. It's somethihg that's happened.

So to say whether it's failed or succeeded is a silly question. It's like saying "Have cheese and onion pies failed" or "Has Audi failed?"?

"I like having cheese and onion pies"
"We did all right when it as just steak and kidney. Why did we need cheese and onion?"
"Anyway cheese and onion pies cause obesity and they're a drain on the welfare state"
"Well, so do steak and kidney pies!"
"Yes, but if we have steak and kidney why do we need cheese and onion? We don't NEED cheese and onion in our country"
"Name me ONE single positive thing that Cheese and Onion pies contribute to this country"
"Why don't we just choose which pies can and can't be imported? I never voted for mass uncontrolled import of pies"

I wouldn't call that a Ghetto, it's natural for people of similar cultures (tastes or backgrounds) to congregate, that's just human nature.

Ghetto's are places where it is really difficult escape, you were born into them, your children will be born into them simply because you have one ethnic trait that the rest of the society wants to keep bottled up. The US has this with Hispanic and Black ghettos, but it's not something we really have in the UK. There might be one or two examples (that demonstrate the rule) but by and large they don't exist here.

The closest we have would be in Northern Ireland where there are somewhat clear catholic and protestant areas and we're barely 20 years out of a near civil war between those groups.

Any culture that feels it normal to st whilst hovering/standing/squatting over a toilet rather than using it properly probably isn't a brilliant one...
In a number of countries, that's how toilets work : you don't plant your bum on a germy seat that's had dozens of other bums on it, but squat over the ground - level toilet, without touching it.
It seems odd the first time you use one, but it works just fine.

This, and a good analogy.

How do we know if Audi has failed?

The management has put the company into liquidation. When talking about nations, we're talking about entire countries falling apart and dividing on ethnic lines

Has the UK descended into city states based on monocultures? Have the Cornish declared independence and started fighting the Welsh? If not, multiculturalism is working, has done since we all agreed to join one monarch.
