Snails - meat, veg or disgusting?

Why in the world would a snail be a vegetable?

Because it would make no sense at all?

Good. Always confuses me when vegans want a "burger" or "sausage" but made of starch...
I agree, have never understood why a vegetarian wants to eat something that looks and supposedly taste like meat.

Because they're only vegetarian for effect, and secretly they crave meat.

What's so hard to understand about it?

I imagine most vegetarians aren't vegetarian because they dislike the taste of meat, but for ethical reasons.

Therefore, a product which is designed to be the next best thing, but doesn't conflict with their ethical beliefs, seems like a no brainer.

I wonder what proportion of vegetarians/vegans would eat lab-grown meat scratchchin

Because they like the way meat tastes, but they don't think meat production can be justified. Not terribly hard to grasp.

But its a contradiction, that's what I can't get my head around.

The ethics argument is a fallacy. They use it to look down on others.

But those that seek "meat substitutes" are just admitting they're wrong without overtly saying it. Almost all of the vego's I know wouldn't touch a Quorn sausage/protein tube, none of them have been daft enough to try to argue about the ethics of it with me, so I respect their lifestyle choices.

confused

How is eating quorn sausages admitting they are wrong without overtly saying it?

Seeking a thing that looks like meat, tastes like meat but isn't meat?

How isn't it?

No animals were killed to make the sausage?

Amazingly simple isn't it.

There are those who eat plant based diets for health reasons as well.

Fortunately nearly 30 years ago so no longer scarring my mind.

I went out with a veggie who wouldn't eat meat (think mid 80s hippy, dreads, Smiths Meat is Murder t-shirt type) but would quorn as it wasn't real meat. Even to the point of putting sauces on it and claiming it as hangover cures.

Extended to leather (Meat is murder) - wouldn't buy leather shoes but only plazzy ones (probably a lot worse for the environment????) but her strangest trait, which she let people know quite well (I didn't know before our brief relationship) was to her "intercourse in the normal fashion, slanged as 'meat'" was also off the cards so she only liked penentration in another way. Hmmm, not hygenic and not something I'd ever want to do again with someone whose diet was heavily protein based.........

.....I do remember going to france with her in the late 1980s and sh asked for vegetarian food in a restaraunt and the waiter offered her horse as it wasn't considered "meat" in the UK. That got the rest of the holiday off to a bad end.

There's no contradiction at all. I might like smoking, but choose not to do it because it's bad for me. I might like the idea of filling my house with wild flowers, but choose not to do it because I don't want to denude the countryside.

And you're accusing others of constructing irrational arguments in order to look down on people? Bwwhhhaahahahhaahhh. Top marks for daftness and hypocrisy.

Bit of a storm in a teacup there Balmoral, surely 'Quorn' is the operative word, it is a meat substitute. 'Quorn chicken pieces' means fake chicken, don't think it's that confusing.
Yes, but where's the consistency? Quorn is indeed the operative word, so why have the meat word chicken associated for the pieces but not a meat word such as beef or pork associated with the other shapes? That's my beef (or pork or chicken).

I was more surprised to learn that France had veggies and/or vegans.

My ex was vegetarian and on a long weekend in France she survived solely on cheese sandwiches. Everything had meat, even a vegetable pizza had pepperoni on it, but they did offer to pick it off after it had been cooked....
Can absolutely confirm this - veggie friends were served a Quiche Lorraine that clearly contained bits of ham and when questioned the waitress gave a classic Gallic shrug and said there wasn't much meat in it and couldn't they just pick them out

Yep, France, Germany and Spain, anywhere away from the big cities and you'll struggle. When I do Euro trips I normally live on cheese and tomato Pizzas!

No animals were killed to make the sausage?
Then why make it look and taste like meat?

If they dont want to eat an animal product... Why do they need to make it into a pretend animal product?

Its not like there is a shortage of vegetarian recopies that don't look or taste like meat? Fake sausages, bacon and other meat "replacement" products are a fairly specific niche that also seems quite profitable (so clearly in demand).
