Well it does when you only post that part.

Seems a bit odd.
The whole thing is creepy.

Criticising someone and then anouncing some personal information about them and saying you know their real name. That seems very unpleasant to me,

To clarify, I keep a notebook of all the old contacts both in private and business life. Never thrown it away since my retirement, although I now have a new notebook. Old World you see!

I’m sure that we know each other in the real World, twelve or fifteen years back we exchanged emails regarding a car club. I’m sure you were at that time based in Lowestoft, you came across as a fairly decent sort of person at the time. What’s gone wrong to turn you into what you are portraying here on PH?
I still have your name from way back in old contacts book, it’s such an unusual tab, can’t be anyone else.
When you type things like above, prefacing them with 'I'm sure', it just makes me sad to read the rest of the post.

Exchanging emails regarding car club ....

Brutal.
From that I take it is you, so what has happened to the old decent fella of that club to what you are now? It’s OK to talk of mental health nowadays, people are so much more enlightened.

No it’s the bit where you tell him and everyone you know his real name. Which sounds odd when you’re criticising him.

It might be different if you’re realising you know each other in a friendly way but not like that.

On a tangent here, but the last few posts are fascinating in how they show how the written word can be interpreted in completely different ways by people.
Some see Cranky's post as "creepy" and "brutal", whilst others read it as simply a "are you this fella that I used to know" plus "what happened to the nice guy?" sort of thing.
The same words, read by different people, resulting in incredibly different interpretations. I suppose context is everything.
I'm certainly not going to say that El Stovey or JJ are being deliberately combative, because it's clear that they are sincere in what they are saying in response. But I will say that Cranky is a long standing poster on here and has always been a decent chap, (even if I haven't always seen eye to eye with him!) I cannot imagine he means anything threatening or creepy or brutal by his post.

Fair enough. I thought criticising someone's personality (because you disagree with their politics) and telling everyone you knew their real name and some other details and then finally making comments about mental health etc was all a bit odd myself.

Apologies if I’ve misinterpreted it completely and it actually was genuine worry about someone though.

This is the problem when people throw insults at each other online. If people followed a basic courtesy of not saying something online to someone that they wouldn't be prepared to say directly to their face, many forums like this would be a lot less aggressive.

In this case jjlynn27 sounds like he has had a genuine and pleasant interaction with crankedup over a shared mutual interest some time ago. And yet, because the context is different, they are both prepared to throw insults at each other. Sad.

You haven’t even read my most innocent post properly, this is evidenced by your statement that ‘I know his real name’ , I have said no such thing and besides which I would never refer to anybody on a public forum in such a manner. Get your facts right and I
will accept an apology for your misguided wrongful statement.

I should further add that JJ was the one that threw an insult at me, responding to my post to another poster. It was this insult to prompt my enquiry back to jj. Why would he respond with insults when especially it was not his concern originally? Like the two blokes in a pub arguing then some individual feels the need to wade in and be aggressive and rude aimed at one of the two protagonists.

That would be rather difficult for a simple reason that I've never been to "Lowestoft" (had to google to see if it's a real place). I do find it entertaining when people make up things, either about themselves or even more bizarrely, about someone that they've never met.

Absolutely, no way would I expose anybody in the real World on a public forum, and I do know a fair number of posters in real name terms in the East Anglia region. As I’m sure others know real name persons in other areas. For me it’s an unwritten rule regarding privacy as it is for all of us I’m sure. As a car enthusiast based forum it’s almost inevitable that many of us would meet at local car events and chat away as car enthusiasts. This is why I was so surprised that jj would jump onto me with insults without cause and why I question his motives.
True enough we haven’t always seen eye to eye on this board, but you have never displayed malice and hope that is true of myself.

How very odd! you may wish to know that you have a mirror image tab in Lowestoft, albeit a far more pleasant and intelligent person. wink

Was typing a reply to ESG post but there is nothing that can be added there.

to cranked;

How could you possibly think what my mirror image looks like, given that you don't know me?

I think you're missing his use of the word "tab" - in other words the jjlynn27 identifier, rather than what you look like physically.

As we're going way off topic here...

Cranky - were you a part of the Suffolk vintage rally thing that was operating out of Framlingham last weekend? Lots of lovely old cars on the roads.

Angry illiterate gammon. You can almost hear teeth through that forced laugh.

You should stick to that creepy 'son' idiocy. At least you can spell that.
Son, I'm so upset by the fact that my calling you son, hurts you
so much. So much so , son, that your hurtful little tirade has totally
been diluted to such an extent that it's effect is akin to rain on
a ducks back.

Re your illiterate comment, son, one could be the worlds
best speller, but when they don't understand what the words
actually mean, then it's very much a wasted talent.
Wouldn't you agree, son, still not to worry it's not like
it's an EMERGENCY , is it, son. rofl

Ps, isn't it nice we are talking again. laugh
