Did he even notice?

They think the collision happened before 5.30am. The bodies were seen and notified at 7.30am. So... if the driver knew, why didn't he report it?

Because maybe he swerved to hit them?

In this political climate there's no chance this will be put down to three people doing the wrong thing at the wrong time. Instead the train driver will be publicly flogged, unions will strike, there will be an expensive public enquiry, trains will be outlawed or speed restricted, Adele will sing a song (because...errr...it happened somewhere near somewhere she heard of...), lights will be shone into the air, graffiti will be legalised as long as you're non-white and middle-class (because they're the problem init) and the three aspiring criminals footballers/actors will be mourned through a charity which encourages creative ability amongst those lazy feckless job shy scumbags who negatively contribute to society without opportunity.

Yep, Lily Allen will apologise and there'll be a three-minute silence.

The driver may not even have known. They could have been run over whilst it was still dark and may not have gone under the front of the train in the drivers view

0530 may have been the last time a train was through on that line maybe?

The bodies were seen by another train, I doubt the driver that hit them just decided to not tell anybody he'd hit 3 people. Like above they think its most likely a freight train overnight thats hit them and not realised, whilst they were doing graffiti on a bridge.

I think it's certainly something like that. A whole load of "OMG, the world's gone mad" stuff that wont happen anyway.

thoughts go out to the family and friends of those who passed away.
Maybe if friend's & family did more, they would still be alive?

5.30am monday morning vandalising trains on live tracks? That's a family not caring/interested enough to step in & do some parenting, less sympathy there.

Edit: A caveat of me doing my fair share of stupid stuff growing up, just not quite playing on train tracks on a regular basis stupid....

that's at least factually accurate so others on hear bemoaning speculation can not complain

Nope, you are absolutely right. Their parents are entirely blameless when their "20 something" son is out middle of the night vandalising private property.

Its one thing doing stupid st as a kid, but when you're in your 20s you should know better. So should their families, who inevitably started turning a blind eye.

Play stupid games, win stupid prizes. Accept the consequences.

Edit: generalising with the above, will apologise if I am wrong, but speculation is speculation.

Or a family unaware of what their adult son who doesn't live at home does in his spare time, who's lives have now been destroyed by what happened last night.

Stay classy.

If they were indeed spraying, then I only hope it doesn't cost to much to clean the paint off.

And clean the train too, that's a terrible waste, could they leave it out in the rain perhaps?

Perhaps they could recoup the clean up costs from the estate of the promising footballers who by their own stupidity caused untold delays to the many innocent people.

Oh FFS, sorry.

I would suggest blue balloons given they were likely male but that would be gender stereotyping which is a bigger concern than anything else discussed here. Until we're all treated like asexual hermaphrodites I'm not going to rest (ignore the fact I was born male and like women...that's besides the fking point).

Looking at the location where the bodies were found there are limited clearances, the three of them may have crouched down as the train approached but could still have been caught and dragged under by the running gear of the loco and / or wagons as they passed, this would explain why the driver did not see them. The same thing happened to a colleague of mine just outside Leicester some years ago, the first he knew about it was when he got a phone call the following day, it turned out a drunken trespasser had wandered along the track, lost his footing and fell into the side of the train as it passed by.

Not everyone who gets hit by a train is actually hit by the front of it, in my case the nineteen tear old lad who tried to jump in front of my train off a bridge in Birmingham one dark October night hesitated at the last second and landed on top of the eighth wagon, breaking his neck in the process. Since he jumped from the 'blind' side of the bridge I was passing under at 45mph I never saw him. The first I knew about it was a phone call from my guv'nor the following morning, the train had made it all the way to Westbury in Wiltshire and the first person to spot the body was the digger driver who was unloading the wagons.

There will be several train drivers in the London area at this moment wondering if it was their train which struck those three at Loughborough Junction.
