Either way, they don't exist to facilitate revenge. More of this 'civilised society stuff'.
They couldn’t anyway - revenge is personal. We are supposed to forsake personal revenge in return for society’s justice.

I am genuinely surprised at how infrequently that trade is refused. I guess after a long sentence the victim’s loved ones are usually too old and wise and have made their peace with the past.
I think it just shows that most people are civilised and accept the trade. Then there's having the means. Kill or seriously injure a proper criminal and see how often that gets forgotten or left to the justice system.
Perhaps so. A murdered child or spouse is a hard thing to accept, though, and given that there are people who will stab you for parking outside their house, I'm surprised that there aren't more cases of revenge being eaten cold.

I doubt it. Cushy places now.
Sex offenders are segregated and protected in their own wing.

He might get get called a “nonce” if someone was lucky enough to spy him across a courtyard but that’s about it.
Most jails are far from cushy

Whilst any reduction is disappointing, this PoS will still be doing a minimum of 24 years bird, and then has to convince the Parole Board that he is safe to be freed. I had feared a reduction to about 10 years.

Let's hope every days of those 24 years is long and miserable.

But the thought he could be out in his early 40's sits ill with me.

Fingers crossed it never happens...………..

I was so pissed off when I heard it on the radio. Why drop it at all? 24 over 27 is no difference, just a middle finger to the family. 27 years was more than fair. I do hope he never gets a new identity like the runts that tortured and butchered James Bulger.
