For a thicko like me, can you or someone else explain to my how the deficit weighs up against the fact that we have been told in the last few months that the US economy is "booming"? smile
You get a £5k bonus at work so you take out a £50k car loan to buy a Range Rover Sport.

On the face of it you're doing really well, you have a nice car and a good job. Assuming your job continues and you keep getting the bonuses there won't be any problem financing the RRS or paying off the mortgage. However the kids are getting older, you might need to buy a bigger house, you never know what's round the corner....would it not have been better off paying the mortgage?

That's what trump's done, he's taken out a loan and (some) taxpayers are reaping the (short term) benefits. If the economic boom continues then it's all gravy........

Its been over a month since Trump last played golf:

https://trumpgolfcount.com/displayoutings

In fact he appears to be hiding himself away as much as he can. Almost like he is scared of whats coming. Know that he and his children could at any moment be indictment for the worst non-violent crime you can commit as an American public figure: betraying your own country by influencing elections with the help of a hostile foreign power, must really weigh heavy on his mind.

A good take on his reclusion here:

These aren’t his usual ‘boring’ duties he’s skipping, like security briefings and policy meetings. These are all events that are right up his alley. The cemetery visits are prime photo ops, chances for him to look solemn and presidential. The visit to the border is yet another photo op, as well as a chance to give a rousing speech among a demographic in which he still has some support. The Asian summits and trip to Colombia are both opportunities to mingle with world leaders who are still willing to flatter him and show him deference.

Trump is a narcissist who thrives on publicity and attention. And these are all events that are pretty much guaranteed to make him feel important and powerful, and ones where he is essentially guaranteed to be treated with respect and honor. The fact that he’s outright passing on some of these, and sending others to bask in what he would usually consider his moments, speaks volumes.

However in reality Trump has only somewhat fast-tracked exactly what has been happening for ages. It's why you keep seeing them raising the debt ceiling - long before Trump was in power. It seems to be what everyone is doing, not just the US - go further into debt even during the good times. How it will all end is unknown. Many have been saying it will explode a long time back. As of now it's not done so. If it does we're probably back to the stone age or similar.

ISWYM however......taking the UK as an example; whilst the national debt is increasing under May/Hammond if Corbyn gets in and decides to give billions to his base I don't think anybody would argue "ah well, he's just doing what may/Hammond were doing just faster and more of it". It's just economic lunacy - in the short term it will stimulate growth, and there might be an increase in tax receipts but its a bit like going to a casino with your monthly pay packet and hoping it comes up red.

I agree it's bad, but no one in power on either side seems to care so it's just a case of sooner or later it seems.

Wasn't trump looking to remove the safeguards put in place after the last banking meltdown?

That's why the 'solution' to Trump is to ignore him. The WH press corps had a golden opportunity last week to boycott him by not turning up to his weekly 'briefings'. They could have started a wave. The Press should simply be reporting what the Government (as opposed to Trump) is doing, in a very factual, impartial and unemotional manner.

Today in a rare break from the Golf course the president held a news conference - no idea what he said because no one turned up but sources in the White House say he ranted for 2 hours about the fake news being made up by the media but refused to take any questions

In CA45, Katie Porter (D) has just taken a small lead over Rep. Mimi Walters (R), 116,732 to 116,471. could be shaping up as another loss for the GOP.
This is my district, and I love it! Go Porter!!

DT having a pop at the French-if it weren't for the US they would be speaking German!

Forgetting that US of A arrived late TWICE!
And that his grandad spoke German before fleeing military service(sensing a theme there!)
And the French were vital in securing independence in the AWI
And the Americans very nearly voted to speak German after the Revolution!

Trump wanted them to stop (only in States where the Republicans were winning though)

Clip from that showing the flyer for said rally.

Date aside, it could just as easily have been produced for one of Trump's.

Some amazing similarities to today. Not all, but there are some things that ring true both in the signs, slogans, the protests and the speeches.
