Mercer- elected 2015 earning near as dammit £80k/ year now.

Claims he went into politics to improve the care of veterans.

Yet rather than attend Parliament, he went on "Celebrity Hunted" instead.

Then within 3 years of being elected, he finds himself with 20 hours a month to "work" for this financial services firm, on a salary greater than that and in addition to that he has as an MP.

Difficult to see how veterans care has been improved by his actions tbh, he could have made different choices with his time, paid for or otherwise.

as a wise man on here once (or twice) said, watch what they do, not what they say.

I wonder if any of the veterans Mercer claimed to have helped were offered £85k a year for 5 hours work each week?

I wonder if any veterans invested in the failed bond scheme?

i doubt it. for the avoidance of doubt i am not supporting him. i think he is another that has been sucked in by the bright lights, fawning glad handers and the ever growing pack of "journalists" (saw one of these new age american journalists that could barely string a sentence together on the bbc a couple of weeks back, reporting from his bedroom ffs. even the bbc journo interviewing him seemed taken aback ) following anyone with even a whiff of celebrity about them, taking snapshots like they are rock stars.

An interesting article that I stumbled on via some investing forums I use, they put it into a bit more context for people who may not know of the LC&F scandal.

They definitely need a proof reader smile

nice find. no need for due diligence when someone thinks they are the next big thing in politics and they feel they are only being paid what they are worth.shame as early signs were good and i hoped his background would enable him to see through those blowing smoke up his rear.

He was on Have I Got News For You last night.

Interesting kinda bloke, in some ways he came across really well, and yet others didnt come across well at all. Probably the sort of person who'd be good to go for a pint with, but not really a politician.

I got the feeling he really didn't know anything about LCF and Surge, but equally it didn't look to me like he asked too many questions about where his £85k salary came from, or did he, as he claimed, really believe that training vets in cyber security paid quite so well?

Should politicians be banned from having second jobs? Its certainly a conflict of interest whichever way you look at it, but being an MP seems a good way to get on the gravy train.
