I do not believe that racism as a concept existed in Kipling's time. Therefore it is not possible for him to have been racist
thinking another race was inferior wsn't around back then?
I’m interested as I am a bit of a Kipling fan. Where does he say a race is inferior?
IIRC you'd be looking at White Man's Burden for that...
Which isn’t racist.
White supremacy isn't racist what?

As I said to judge history by today's standards achieves nothing but you can't stand here in 2018 and say it's not racist.

I have just thrown away all my Wagner recordings, as well as the 200 books I have collected about his life and music. I have burnt all my Dickens books - that Fagin thing was awful. And, of course, Shakespeare is no longer welcome on my bookshelves after that Shylock play. All the Joseph Conrad will have to go because of that book about the Narcissus.

This will make a lot of space, and I am sure the world will be all the better for it.
I won't be able to watch Alec Guinness in Oliver Twist anymore either!

Don't be so quick to judge - if that filling is made from black pudding it's a winner.

Tasteless compared to a proper Stornoway black pudding.

When do you think racism was invented?

I suspect, as usual, you're just taking a contrary view but if you can read the poem and genuinely not see the white supremacist overtones then you're beyond help I'm afraid. e.g. "Your new-caught, sullen peoples, half-devil and half-child."

It is the language of the time. There is nothing supremacist about it except in your mind.

I don't unerstand how wiping history benefits anyone - surely knowing how history has a habit of repeating itself, isn't it wise to learn from it rather than simply make it disappear because the professionaly offended get all shirty?
Which hasn't actually happened here. Some silly kids have made a protest in the way that silly kids are prone to.
This.

Kipling was a product of his time, zeitgeist and all that bks. Were he alive today I'm sure he'd be different.

Kids doing silly things because they don't think. Everyone has at least one stupid thing they've done as a kid, fortunately for most, they weren't caught.

However it gives the "perpetually offended" something new to get offended about.

Anybody know when the MOBOs or Black History Month are going to take place?

ETA I like Kipling's poems and stories. Rikki tikki tavi is one of my favourites.
