I'm a lip reader. I believe he said "stupid people".
We'll see whether he admits to it.

So it's not ok to call a woman stupid unless she's stood with some men. Then they can all be stupid and that's ok.

Got it.

The whole thing's a pantomime.

Isn't it more the unnecessary addition of her sex as a component of the insult?

In the same way that it's not cool to call someone a "black bd", even if those things are both true in isolation, it's the combination which is more "sinister"* than the sum of their parts?

* that doesn't feel quite right, but I can't think of a better word

I detest Corbyn but it’s pretty clear he is saying ‘people’ not ‘woman’.
A lot of lipreaders are seeing it the other way; so am I.

There is a clear plosive 'p' in the middle of the first word, but not in the second, which looks to contain labiovelar and labial phonemes.

Of course, that might be down to his chronic senile dribbling.

I know little about lip reading or linguistics - am I right in thinking this is merely a scientific way of calling him a ?

I've been deaf for 40 years and use hearing aids both sides. I have come to lip read quite a bit to augment what hearing I have. There is no doubt he said 'woman'.

Not a very good one. Firstly making a P is a very distinct mouth movement , as is 'W'. and you you can see the W
Second, saying people is completely nonsensical response.

Corbyn is the 'C' word. It will be in the next Oxford Dictionary edition for sure.

Im new to lip reading but I use it sometimes. I'd agree with you, it's the m that does it for me.

Watch it with the sound off and it becomes clearer for some strange reason.

Perhaps he was referring to Fiona Onasanya?

I did miss it but can anyone confirm he wasn't looking at Diane Abbot when this was muttered.

I've watched it a couple of times and I think it looks like "woman".

So who is correct?
After all it is just the conservatives trying to create a distraction

May asked him to look at the people behind him. That’s why he responded with stupid people.

I don’t know how anyone could argue the word he said was Woman. Say the words, your lips make a totally different shape between Woman and People. He said Woman.

He was being spoken to directly by May, so why would he say "people" ?

It's tricky when you have lip readers who are also split though.

I don't know how you'd prove it in either direction.
