Re a Labour Party split - I might be being thick but what’s actually the big deal for Corbyn? I get if the Tory’s split then this government would lose the tiny majority it has. However that’s not a problem for Labour and surely if a few MPs leave then isn’t all Labour needs to do us to put other candidates up for those seats come the next election? A few MPs as independents / a new party might take a few votes here and there but unlikely to really be competition v a candidate with the labour name behind them. What am I missing? Thanks

Maybe it's the consequences of the 10~20% of central middle ground Labour voters being taken from Labour, The amount of uncomfortable labour voters who can see a Corbyn government as not good for the UK and hoping the PPL would keep most of the madder pledges from occurring but with more and more Momentum / People's Assembly / SWP nominee's as possible new MP's in a Labour government they will no longer hold their nose and vote red.

Many MP's seats can't withstand a loss of 10:20% of their vote thumbup

Thanks. Yes I can see that now. Corbyn and McDonnell are the biggest threats facing the UK so let’s hope this split does happen!

Tom Bower on LBC talking about his book on Corbyn.

Very interesting and shows what a complete control freak, moron and danger Corbyn is.

Guido has tweeted that he's on Defection Watch. Are the Labour MPs going to jump to LibDems, Greens? Form their own party?

Apparantly labour mps feel they should be campaigning for a remain or people's vote.

The time for campaigning would have been before the 1st ref, when JC was noticeably absent.

When he was door stepped this morning he didn't seem his cheery happy go lucky self. Has something happened to upset our future illustrious leader.... I really hope so

spot on but he was even grumpier this morning. He usually says the same thing every day but he was a bit terse this morning.

Hmmm, BBC says perhaps four MPs in the above article.

I wonder what this new Democratically elected Socialist Party could be called?

I guess it depends which of them are being referred to, but the UKIP voted dissolved back into Tory and Labour votes almost evenly it seems, looking at the numbers.

If they get deselected, openly campaigning for Remain or even a second vote is fine as long as they have other career ideas too. Especially as "This Week's" time is up smile

I can't see such large numbers of deselections or resignations happening with politics the way it is. Too dangerous for both camps. (Much as it, and and equivalent actual split up, of the Tory party would probably be beneficial for the country).

Could be a strategic drip drip of resigning the whip.

Over the whole of my life (at least the bit I can remember) Labour have taunted the Tories about being split on Europe. It would be quite a thing if it's actually Labour who split, broadly on the issue of Europe (and obviously Corbs, but still...).
