Teenager slapped by Policeman
Discussion
Some stats (for anyone interested).
Govt figures suggest there are 23,000 assaults on police every year in E&W.
That means a police officer is assaulted every 20 minutes (ish) on average in E&W.
Surprised ? Shocked ? Don't be.
The Police Federation survey suggests the figure is actually 100 times higher than this and there are actually 2.4 million assaults on police every year.
Not everything gets recorded.
This video was just the tip of a very large iceberg.

No simply asking in your experience of being in what you described previously (danger v public = rovinghawk to the rescue)
What I actually said was that the ethos of the armed forces was not to run away & hide, leaving the public to face any danger.pavarotti1980 said:
what you would have done.
Could you please get it into your head that I see no point in speculating about what didn't happen?pavarotti1980 said:
Your comments of whether it is acceptable seem to be at odds with legislation and the comment from the CC.
There is plenty of history of CCs telling lies to exonerate policemen. Legislation involves necessity which is up for debate.pavarotti1980 said:
Unless you think it is acceptable to bite a police officer...
As a general rule no. I'm unsure as to why you would suggest I think it acceptable.edited for typo

And you stated you put yourself between the public and danger. Rovinghawk said:

Does it? All legislation? Please quote the relevant bits of Common Law, PACE, Criminal Law Act which state necessity around use of force

No- best to go & hide until the trouble has gone. Pull a few motorists instead, maybe write a few reports.
As for Pavarotti's suggestion that I join the police
1) I'm above the age where most are retired & enjoying the pension
2) [b]I did a spell wearing a different uniform- one where we took the attitude that we had to get between the trouble & the public, not run away scared.[b\]
I await the next thread where you guys claim to be Ubermensch & I will quietly laugh at you to myself.
Now what was this trouble you mention above???No- best to go & hide until the trouble has gone. Pull a few motorists instead, maybe write a few reports.

I'm pretty certain that the law in this country only allows violence when necessary rather than on a whim. trust me.pavarotti1980 said:

Any generic trouble- take your pick.pavarotti1980 said:

You being certain is no guarantee of it being true though. Here is one example for you. treat it as a school day
Section 3 of the Criminal Law Act 1967 provides that:
(1) A person may use such force as is reasonable in the circumstances in the prevention of crime, or in effecting or assisting in the lawful arrest of offenders or suspected offenders or of persons unlawfully at large.

Probably, if the idea still pervades that a pre-emptive attack 'just in case' is acceptable. I have this idea that there needs to be a clear & credible threat before violence is justified. You presumably feel otherwise.I accept that Harwood got away with it, as did de Menezes' killers but I still find it to be poor form.
(These are also cases where CCs have been proven to lie in support of their chaps, btw.)
