Stick to the speed limits in urban areas and it wont matter a fk how many speed guns they point at you.
And when they aren't catching enough people to justify the time and effort - expect the speed limit to be mysteriously lowered.
These are volunteers- How are they going to get the speed limit lowered ? confused

ETA I imagine the vast majority of people wont be affected as the vast majority of people don’t drive like dicks.
There are some places where such constant complaints from local residents have resulted in their villages being equipped with Average speed cameras at the start and end of the problem area. It does seem to be very effective (just as they are on motorways).

Policing should be carried out by the police.

Not really bothered frankly, if they want to dress up as wombles and wave they're hairdryer around then all the better for them. Whether they do any good is up for strong debate.

A village local to me has a very active group of these piss stained old geriatrics helpful members of society. They have recently gone to the trouble of erecting a fake Bobby with hairdryer and a (awful) fake camera. They get most annoyed when I bounce my car off the limiter when travelling through the village at 28 mph (3 inch stainless twinpipe).
Are you 5

No harm in others highlighting problems in their immediate locality, policing works by co-operation. Average speed cameras have, I understand, been installed because all other methods of control have failed.

The next village along from me has signs at the either end of it saying “SPEEDWATCH HAS CAUGHT X DRIVERS THIS WEEK” and every week it has a different number.

The thing is, I drive through it at varying times over the course of the month, and my wife drives through it twice a day at peak time for her work. Not once have we ever seen anyone holding their hairdryers in the village in the 8 years we have been here.

I am not saying the group doesn’t exist, but it does smack of someone making up numbers every week and slapping them on the board.

My town also used to have the local speedwatch group post a newsletter through the doors, which looked like it had been made in Microsoft publisher by a 7 year old, complete with terrible grammar and TIMES NEW ROMAN IN CAPS LOCK SAYING THE SPEEDWATCH GROUP IS OUT THIS WEEK AND WE COULD BE ANYWHERE SO WATCH OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Urgh, honestly when I get to their age, I hope I’m sunning myself on a villa balcony in the sun, not standing in the rain with a hiviz and a grudge.

Keep up at the back, this started in 2001.
Actually being provided and trained by the police rather than busybodies?
Yes, 2001 in the village of Ash, near Martock in Somerset: https://www.facebook.com/7792979811/posts/10152347...

In an ideal world, we'd have enough police to enforce these limits, but while it still takes days for an officer to attend the scene of a burglary around here, then it's not surprising these groups are growing in popularity.

The group local to me are probably more useful than most groups because they regularly have 'proper' enforcement with them from Essex Police (either a PCSO or police officer, with a Trucam).

They also post reports like these on Facebook from their monitoring sessions.

My thanks to Essex Police - Tendring who yesterday supported Community Speed Watch with their Trucam.

We were in:

Station Road, Parkeston
Ramsey Road, Harwich
A120 by Albemarle Street, Harwich
Harwich Road j/w Partridge Close, Great Oakley

A total of 46 drivers will be receiving notices of intended prosecution in the next 14 days.

There is no excuse to drive a coach at 55 mph in Station Road, Parkeston with school children around, nor to drive a black pickup in Ramsey Road at 55 mph.

This morning we paid a visit to Great Oakley.

In 90 minutes we recorded 55 motorists speeding through the village.

Speeds from 36 to 48mph - No Excuse !
