Is he suffering from the onset of dementia or is he offering reasoned debate by stopping brexit?

And no, it's not another Brexit thread for those frothing at the mouth...

Vince Cable's an old duffer who will say anything to try to get a column inch.

Fortunately he's being roundly ignored.

Just watched the poor Vince on the news, thought he had a killer jibe about Brexiteers and completely screwed up the line, despite the autocue.

Cable is no different to Mandelson/Blair/Heseltine et al, the vote went the wrong way, they won't accept it, and the attempts to stop Brexit started within days of the vote to Leave on the 23rd June 2016, and haven't stopped since.

The Lib-Dems failed spectacularly with their campaign in the GE of 2017, I don't think anything they (Cable) say now will make a jot of difference.

I remember him. Didn't he used to be a politician of some sort? What's he up to these days, I wonder.

He is a caretaker leader and the country knows it, for the liberals the sooner he steps down the better.

Jo Swinson was on womans hour today and came across as quite a good communicator she may well be the heir apparent

My money (bet already placed back in January, got fair odds too seeing as she's now 2s) is on local to me physics teacher Layla Moran, the Oxford West MP.

She's come from nowhere in the last 3 years to become the rising star, taking out the standing Tory of the previous 7 years in the last GE.
(Just better add - just in case anyone thinks I'm a turncoat. I'd never vote Lib-Dum. Ever!).
Her standing ovation on Saturday keeps my hopes up for some money.

Jo (Swinson) turned down the chance originally to become Leader (mistake) but said she'd go for Dep Leader - which, unsurprisingly, she got. Yes, she will be favourite IF she goes for the leadership. But that is simply because she's the known factor. Moran's odds are falling all the time.
Swinson said she's not ruling out a bid for the leadership.
I wonder why?
Layla.

Vince is probably singing to her right now:
Layla, you've got me on my knees.
Layla, I'm begging, darling please.
Run for the bloody leadership before I seize!

There has been discussions within the party about allowing people who aren't an MP to stand, opening up the floor as it were.

They'll be getting 'em in off if the street as they walk by before long, they're that desperate.

What a crap political party.

I assume that you’re unable to expand on your statement then? Not unexpected.

Forming a coalition with the Tories put them back 20 years.
Gave up all of their manifesto promises, thinking they would get meaningful concessions.
It drove many of their voters to Labour.
Their stance on brexit won't endear them to half the electorate next time round, another few years of wandering in the wilderness I think.

Remember they only made those promises because they never expected to be held accountable for them.

Only a few years ago I had respect for Vince Cable as a politician, not sure if I have completely changed my political visions or he has changed his. Whenever he makes a political statement it seems that within one minute he is advocating a ‘people’s vote’ as if no other political business is available for consideration.

I remember a time when the LibDem Conference used to get live coverage all week on BBC1 and all the major political programmes and news used to have studios there etc.

Now it appears to be about 6 people in a Village Hall filming some poor old confused bloke on a mobile phone. I caught a little bit of Cable on the news last night and unless I was mistaken it was the very last item on about 10.28pm.

Around here 10 years ago they had a LibDem MP with a comfortable majority plus dominated the local council. The MP lost their seat in 2015, they tanked in the locals and in 2017 their voted halved yet again from 2015 due to their stance on Brexit coming a distant third behind Tories and Labour. Their vote dropped yet again in every single ward in 2018 locals. Completely irrelevant and heading for extinction outside a few areas in London and Scotland.

I can't see any way back because they get no coverage or any serious consideration.
