LBC did an hour or so on this same topic the other week, and the strict rule was that calls from anti-vaxxers would not be taken whatsoever, on the basis that no one should ever do anything that allows these people to publicly spout their nonsense, and potentially encourage anyone else to not vaccinate.
As someone who doesn't have children I don't have a dog in this fight but I find it an interesting subject. It seems quite similar to the climate change debate in some respects.

I was quite happy just reading the thread until I saw what you said about LBC. Do you remember who the host was? Seems like rather an extreme decision and I can think of plenty of controversial subjects where both sides, or a minority view, are given a voice. I'd like to listen to the LBC programne and their justification.

The point is that the subject is not controversial: there is quite literally no debate to be had on whether vaccines are effective or safe. Anybody espousing an alternative view doesn't have a point, they aren't a minority view, they are quite simply wrong and they are harming other people by being wrong. It is quite right for responsible institutions to deny these people a voice; there is, after all, no shortage of other platforms for them to be heard on.

Anti-vaxxers are more like flat-earthers, they have absolutely zero empirical evidence on their side.

But a lot of time on their hands that allows them to create a lot of internet noise and traffic. They have an agenda where as the scientists who work on vaccines don't or rather have no need to batter the web with their proof. I'm sure someone will sling 'big pharma' at this point. However, they are not wasting bandwidth/time/money to skewe the internet searches their way compared to the anti-vax lot.

There's an interesting podcast for anyone that listens to them...Joe Rogan #1261 - Peter Hotez where they discuss vaccines for some of the time. Well, at least I found it interesting anyway.

You can cure the vaccine related autism via dangerously high doses of zinc and vitamin c.
Actually you can do no such thing, however dumb you are.

Unfortunately when the President of their country supports anti-vax views the weak minds will follow and grow.

What would it take to make these fking mouthbreathers wake up? An outbreak of smallpox(yes, I know it was eradicated, but there are still samples stored at CDC and in a lab somewhere in Russia, and due to the russians' crappy security and st pay probably in Dr Evil's lair too.)?

The problem is that someone will say "ah, but this way the disease is out there and this means that now no one will get ill"

Or some crap like that.

What's happening in New York is exactly what any sane person would expect to happen, does anyone on here still think we shouldn't be vaccinating?

I saw this on the news last week. It's shocking really. Idiots.

I saw an anti-vax post online recently which showed a picture of a child having what looked to be the mother of all screaming fits. You know the type, almost purple in the face from crying, arms flailing. All this because of the needle being jabbed in their arm - and "Why would you do this to your child?" as the headline. Anyone who does something which makes their child cry is clearly completely evil, and unfit to be a parent.

Almost definitely entirely unrelated to this fact is that my 14 month old daughter had a complete meltdown of similar proportions at 5.30am on Sunday morning because I wouldn't let her eat the cat food that she spilled on the floor.

Harsh parenting, i suggest, depriving your daughter of slightly soiled kanga chunks.

You monster. We had a massive meltdown from a 20 month old because I had the temerity to get her dressed this morning, depriving her of her favourite pyjamas.

This idea is the perfect example of infective idiocy

It makes me want to stand in the street and scream

Why is it that normally sensible and ostensibly intelligent people can get so easily hooked on this viral imbecility and then bend every sinew to prove themselves right, despite decades, no over a century, of evidence for proper scientific study, not borderline psychotic wkery and picking and choosing evidence to suit your opinion

flat earthers
Anti vaxers
fk knows what else ers
Birthers
9/11 conspiracy fk wits

you haven't suddenly found so previously hidden secret conspiracy. You have hooked into a load of old bks that you can't get out of your head. Its frankly fking pathetic.

Excellent! You missed the bit about antivax stuff being pushed by russia to promote discord - so basically if you believe it you've been trolled by russian disinformation. Sort of the polar opposite of the "wake up sheeple" message.
