Such events have repeated themselves throughout history. Democracy tries to restrict such behaviour. It doesn't always succeed but at least there are usually some forms of restrictions placed on those who wield power from stopping them trying to behave as gods.

Classic example was an electricity sub station had an issue, dropped power to a large chunk of Dubai and went up in flames.

First report from the Official Sources was that there wasn't a problem. Then there was a problem but nothing to do with them. Then there was a problem, it might have something to do with them. Then there was a problem, it did have something to do with them, but it wasn't their fault and no, it wasn't on fire. Yes, OK, maybe it is on fire. There is a problem, it does have something to do with them, yes it is on fire, but it's not their fault. Yes, OK, there is a problem, it does have something to do with us, yes it is on fire and it is their fault...

The only reason the truth came out was social media documenting the whole thing.

This was over the space of four hours or so.

Indeed. But Saudi is not a democracy, it's a totalitarian absolute monarchy.

At least Merkel has a pair of balls.

Germany can't sell arms to Saudi Arabia amid unanswered questions about Khashoggi's death – Merkel

Channel 4 showed some serious CCTV of that body doubles walkabout and actions after leaving the consulate. Very damning.

For ‘them’ it was a cunning plan. To mediocre intelligence (cctv, phones bugs etc) it was crude. Minimum, the Prince is getting a shouty

The attempt to 'fool' everyone into thinking that Jamal Khashoggi had left the embassy by getting someone to dress up in his clothes and walk out, was truly a pathetic attempt at misdirection.

But then again, they simply dont care because no one will do anything about it.

Same as no one will do about thing about the Russia/Salisbury incident.

This doesn't show the Saudi government in a good light.

Killing a low level journo isn't the issue.

1. It's the fact they did it so badly
2. Covered it up badly
3. Covered up the coverup badly
4. Mishandled the cover ups, cover up
5. Haven't come clean and just fessed up.

Shockingly poor all round really.

Exactly this & if the Saudi's continue with this dialogue then it means there could be other people getting murdered in order to keep the premise that this was a rogue operation which means some may end up being executed for carrying out the crown Princes orders.

Yup - ironically the entire assassination squad could end up being assassinated to protect the Prince.

would the assassins of the assassins then also ‘disappear’ scratchchin ?

Wouldnt be the first time in history that has happened.

But whatever the international condemnation, very little will happen because the Saudi's are too important an ally and too much has been invested for the west to turn their backs on them.

Well that (Erdogan's speech) was a bit of an anti-climax. Don't think we learnt anything new.

Trump sent CIA director Gina Haspel to meet Erdogan yesterday. A deal has been done.

ETA: "Extradition of suspects" ... That's good news for them - Turkey doesn't have capital punishment. I'll bet these guys are offering to pay their own air fares.

Cool - what percentage of Germany's business with the KSA is arms related?

pure arrogance from them, even more so that Russia who at least took some precautions to check for security cameras and such which made it impossible to definitively prove

wonder how much Turkey are being paid to not release the video/audio?

Agreed, am not surprised that they bumped one of their own off, I am more surprised at the sheer incompetence of this bunch and the recent russian assassins.

Not exactly Mossad are they?
