Don't expect any of our virtuous Western countries to cancel big arms deals (or other lucrative contracts) with the Saudis ... our politicians are up for sale and the Saudis have some of the biggest wallets on the planet.

Wouldn't do to offend someone who is in the position to make you a lot of money when you leave politics. or who has a lot of business that they can do with your set of existing benefactors in the business world.

Given that Saudis regularly impose corporal (or even capital) punishment on dissenters, are the source of and major financial backers of Wahabist/Salafist Islamic fundamentalists, kidnapped the PM of Lebanon, have been carrying out a genocidal war in Yemen for three years (which is massively under-reported in the Western Media) and now have butchered a dissident in one of their embassies, you have to wonder what they'd have to do that would actually result in the West disowning them ...... run out of cash, perhaps?

Honest question, why to people refer to him as Mohammad bin Salman when bin Salman means son of Salman (ie his father) and his family name is Al Saud.

His full name would be Mohammad bin Salman Al Saud

Is it normal to refer to the fathers name rather than the family name in the middle east?

yes, because his full name is, Mohammad bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud , i.e. mohammed son of salman son of abdulaziz of the house of Saud.

They just keep chucking in son of son of son of...

easier to call him MBS, like everyone does.

Audio recordings of the actual killing have been passed on to and heard by the Director of the FBI. I would expect that President Trump has either heard these too or soon will.

I just wondered if it's normal on here, in the UK, or in Saudi? Many years ago I spent some time in Bahrain (My father worked there) and I don't remember what the convention was. I did meet the previous king (Isa) while I was there but I don't remember the emphasis on bin Sulman rather than Al Khalifa.

won't make any difference

trump said and I quote:

"I want to believe him. I really want to believe him. They’ve been a very good ally. They’ve been a tremendous investor in our military equipment and other things. They buy tremendous amounts of things from our country. It probably amounts to millions of jobs, you know, a million jobs. That’s a lot of jobs. So I certainly want to believe him."

Like every single previous American president and most of the other current Western leadership (with the notable exception of Germany).

Yes, the Silicon valley elite who LOVE to virtue signal about how moral and correct they are haven't had a whole lot to say, wonder why?

Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Facebook, hasn't had much to say:

Twitter boss Jack Dorsey unusually tight lipped too:

The owner of Amazon.com and the Washington Post (Jeff Bezos) also not saying much about the savage murder of one of his writers, can't think why not?

Is MBS gigantic or are the others just tiny?

Zuckerberg brought out his finest casual tee and booster pillow for the occasion?

I’m no Trump fan, but he’s saying what every other government is thinking - how can we keep selling them our stuff.

Of course he is, and that's my point - money talks, and in this case, it makes a more compelling noise than a human getting dismembered.
