If you want to know a little more about Jamal Khashoggi and his position, here's an interview with him which was released when his disappearance first came to light, but before the grim reality was known.

In it, he outlines that he didn't oppose the Saudi regime or MBS, and actually felt the Saudi system could work, which I think explains some of the comments above. It's really interesting, as well as pretty damn sad.
