I understand the French are using extortion to force the UK to pay the £39 billion divorce bill.

I seem to recall some complaining about an MEP comparing the EU to the Mafia, seems the comparison was wrong, it's not the EU but one of their member countries

Lovely people the EU and some of it's member countries! Yet some can't get enough of them.

I've mentioned it once or twice but the natural enemy of the English, the French. ©Royal Navy

I seem to recall the UK doing its own bit of extortion with the divorce bill to get a trade deal, but I guess that's okay with you.

You don't like it when others use your own tactics against you huh.

I think it's all fair, to be honest.

What's a negotiation without a quiet threat underlying the conversation? Both sides have sticks and carrots.

The UK are not using extortion.

Based on the evidence from various sources including the House of Lords, and the evidence of the EU agreeing to do a trade deal prior to the UK agreeing to paying the divorce bill, your post is incorrect.

By the way, the tactics are not mine.

Bit part actor and unremarkable comedian, becomes better known for posting Remainer propaganda on Twitter, where the nut spends his life getting all dewy eyed and moist.

Facts. The word you are looking for is facts.
Taken out of context ant reduced to a snippet that completely distorts the actual fact.

Take Reese Mog as an example, the real story is that a multi national hedge fund company does indeed open an office in Dublin because the market in Ireland has now reached a level where they need representatives in that country.

So not quite as put forward by this very badly constructed tweet, we it is badly constructed if he was trying to be factual but I somehow feel that wasn't his objective.
Indeed, problem is that remainers are so desperate to find anything that paints brexit in a bad light that they are reduced to this.

Whether or not this is a real threat or one of those hypothetical scenarios that get turned into 'fact', it does mean that Brexit is yet again highlighting real geopolitical strategic weaknesses in the UK.

We really need to take the opportunity of leaving to fix these issues and make ourselves as self-reliant as possible so that we cannot be so vulnerable to being held hostage by any other country or group of countries in future.

The complexity of disentangling ourselves from the EU must teach our politicians and defence staff a lesson about what a parlous state they have allowed the country to fall into.

In geopolitical terms, it is simply a fact that France has historically been our enemy for far longer than we have had friendly relations. The EU has only been in existence since the 90s and we discover that even the German government has detailed strategic plans to deal with the collapse of the EU by 2040 (which is not to say that it thinks it is likely to happen, merely that it is plausible enough to plan for). So there is no guarantee that we will face a benign, or at least not actively hostile, France in the not too distant future.

Varadkar is an idiot. If the UK is in such a state that it's needing to go begging for money from Ireland, how much money does he think Ireland will have to lend given the Irish economy is so dependent on the UK economy?

He'll be too busy trying to work out how he's going to get food into his country to pick up the phone to a cash strapped Hammond.

He's Tusk et al making knobbish tweets and he's just wanting to be in with the gang, but not thought it through properly.

Varadkar should have tweeted a photo of a cake iced as per a Euro note and usurped Tusk, Juncker would have fallen off his chair for the fifth time that day.

Where they fk! It was a meeting on their benefits/pay post-brexit. Contemptible scum.
Indeed, but tbh I'm more concerned that every MEP has a 4400 euro a month
Expence allowance that they do not have to account to anybody on how it is spent.

There are 600 or so MEPs atm.
