, thank you for your service.
Megalolz. Is that how the kids say it? Im sure he's a nice guy and does his job to the best of his ability but this whole discussion has revolved around the fact that some people value some jobs, for whatever reason, more than others.
Completely irrational, illogical and quite frankly ridiculous. Don't like it? Start a petishon
I don't have a job to do any more. I haven't worked (nor have I claimed any benefits) since I retired from the army 6 years ago. Read into that what you want to.
I don't need to start a petition. Nor do I need your, or anyone else's permission to contribute to a discussion on an internet forum.
I didn't join the army expecting to be thanked for my service. The wages were advertised with complete transparency when I joined, and that's all I expected at the end of the day. Fair payment according to my contract. The travel, the getting to play with cool guns and explosives, big tanks, and the hat-full of free driving licences, along with a pension from the age of 40? That was all just a nice bonus.
I can't contribute anecdotes about being a motor mechanic, a taxi driver, or a photocopier salesman, etc, because they aren't jobs I've any experience of doing. So you'll have to make do with all I do know about, which is pretty much professional soldiering and... well that's it really. Hence why anything I share on the internet tends to be about my life experiences, so that'll be army stuff mostly. Currently I can say that I was a soldier for a greater proportion of my life than I wasn't, and I don't suppose anecdotes about being a schoolboy in the 70s and 80s are going to be particularly interesting to anybody, especially not on a thread about firemen and freebies (or not).
Don't like it? Toddle off to 'Chew The Fat' and laugh about me behind my back. Then keep pretending that I don't know about that site, while giggling like a schoolgirl about how original and funny you think you are. You don't have to read what I contribute here. Flick your eyes down the left-hand side of the screen, and when you spot my username (and I only have one, unlike some twerps on here) then move on to a contribution from someone who you know shares your beliefs...

Clearly (to uniform spotters anyway) that's not me in the photo. But the rifle is the The AW50 anti-materiel rifle. It's a beast too. About 15 kg in weight, it's (intended) use in British EOD units is to take out conventional munitions which it's undesirable to get close to. Used in conjunction with the Raufoss .50" cal Armour Piercing Incendiary round, it pierces armour and sets fire to whatever is inside the armour. It's also a right royal pain in the arse to lug around, especially when it's nigh on 20% of your bodyweight and you're wearing body armour, your helmet, and your personal kit as well.Different rifle, same ammo... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bihsaFmnr9U
Sorry that this has dragged the thread completely off topic, but then again, it seems to have been established that it's a social media non-story anyway...

Did you retire your sense of humour as well when you left the army
Nope. That's been worn thin in the intervening six years by a small but vocal group of sad muppets on a popular internet motoring website who seem to think that because I pitch in with contributions referring to my army days that somehow I'm trying to big myself up. I'm not. I was a very small cog in a specialist component within a very big wheel. And I may sometimes sound like a know-it-all, but if I don't know the answer to something, I'm not too stupid to realise that sometimes "I don't know" is an entirely acceptable answer to a question...
...anyone got any (sensible) questions regarding ADAC numbers (Ammunition Descriptive Asset Codes)?

I read it. You might learn how to quote to give some context to your ramblings.
We're not all as clever as yourself but what I said made perfect sense to many people.A quote is not always required if your up to speed.
The only person rambling is yourself . If you don't like/ agree/ disagree with what you read just ignore it.
Stick to relevant points.

Well said sir there are a number of complete nobs on here who when they see something they don't like or disagree with have an apoplectic fit rather than ignore the post in question. And I may sometimes sound like a know-it-all, but if I don't know the answer to something, I'm not too stupid to realise that sometimes "I don't know" is an entirely acceptable answer to a question...

Smallish brain capacity generally the problem.

A bit of an eye opener, but interesting nonetheless!

A welfare unit was on site
https://www.yorkpress.co.uk/news/16983341.bm-fire-...
‘A spokesperson for the fire service said: "North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service has a welfare unit which provides refreshments to our firefighters at large incidents and this (welfare unit) did attend the incident at Clifton Moor, York on Saturday evening.‘
That all adds to the suspicion that the story was caused by some random person demanding free coffee from McD's "on behalf of those brave fire-fighters".https://www.yorkpress.co.uk/news/16983341.bm-fire-...
