Imagine someone hating NP&E so much that they keep registering accounts to post how bad it is on the subforum they hate.
You'd have to be a right knobber to do that.

In years to come, students of early 21st century politics will look upon John Bercow as a staunch defender of democracy and the rights of parliament. We owe him a huge debt of gratitude.

If he does resign on 31st October, before an election, it will of course be Ken Clarke running the process to elect his successor.
And his successor will be appointed by a HOC with a minority government who can’t whip their choice.

I think he’s played a big card there.
And may actually last longer than the current PM of the minority government.

A senior government source wishes Bercow well

“Bercow thinks he’ll walk away as a hero, when most people in the country don’t know who he is and those that do think he’s a nauseating wker. The man has been central to stopping Brexit - the nation won’t thank him.”

His wife is and will remain far more newsworthy.

Bercow in IACGMOOH would be good viewing, about the right level (z list).

Yeah well, you told the world magic grandpa would be bitting Johnson's arm off for a GE last week, so I'm inclined to take your advice with a generously proportioned bucket of salt.

Past performance is no guide to future results, as they say.

I don't know half of you half as well as I should like; and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.

You mean he might do something honest and altruistic in the future?

Good riddance IMO. 10 years too late!

Bercow hasn't been central to stopping Brexit at all. Other than in the referendum when he got one vote like the rest of us, he's never voted on any motion in the HoC so has had less influence than other MPs in stopping Brexit. What he has done is stood up for MPs to have their say when the executive wanted to shut them down, and those MPs have been central to stopping Brexit.

You must see how contradictory that is?

If he’s manoeuvred the house to favour MPs opposed to Brexit then he’s done far more than he could have done with one vote.

A central role if ever there was one.

Every single vote has been lost because more MPs don’t support Brexit than do. Even with a majority the cons couldn’t deliver it, and if they had all followed the party policy they could have, no matter the opinions of the opposition or the speaker.

Even Boris and some members of the ERG voted for the WA.

Can't abide the man but if he did anything wrong legally / procedural that he shouldn't, surely someone should have made a proper legal / constitutional challenge against him?
