Bercow having fun with the tax payers credit card in his final days

£1000 taxi ride to Nottingham, could he not have rented a car for a whole lot less...

and more.

Not unexpected given the nature of the man, and there's a precedent for that role.

How embarrassingly true to form. The individual has no sense of propriety. I wouldn't wish anybody any harm but I sincerely hope the gut instinct of the paying public is one of disgust.

None of it is in any way surprising given that he flipped his second home at least once to avoid paying CGT, claimed the thick end of a grand for accountancy fees on his own tax return, and bunged in a £172 chitty for a chauffered ride of under a mile. The fact that he had a good education with a First Class degree at the end of it only makes him even more dislikable. Trump at least has the excuse of ignorance.

He is an utter turd, he really thinks he is something special, his alternative Queen's speech at Christmas, his utter disregard for the public purse and expenses.

I do wonder if the inclusion of the Speaker's chair, in a blatant commercial personal publicity stunt, is not covered by some form of copyright?

Well I hope they use this as a reason why he shouldn't get a into the lords.

Apparently, Labour (Corbyn) has nominated Bercow for a peerage, it shows he has learned from his election defeat.

Does that mean it will get any further along though or is it meaningless?

The PM can block it but I am unaware of a time it has happened before

There are precedents. It has happened about ten-fifteen times in the last ten or so years. There were seven in 2015 alone. Many were former MPs from the three main parties and also several donors to the main parties.

In today's news, I hesitate to mention the 'rag', there are reports that a new and revised HoL is being touted, on land already owned by the State and dedicated for the purpose, as a replacement In-The-North at railway marshalling yards in York. Good opportunity for pruning, given the distance from the delights of Soho etc. I doubt if JB would relish that given the scorn some southern habitants have for such foreign climes.

I doubt he’d relish the scorn some northern habitants have for southern tts like him.

Tend to think he would last as long as a short thing living anywhere north of the Dee. They might even forget their manners over the Mersey. Heaven knows the reception he'd get ovver t'umber.

Bercow said that, since retiring, it had "become increasingly obvious that the government has no intention of honouring the centuries-old convention that a departing Speaker is promptly elevated to the House of Lords".

Convention is there to be broken or amended....he must have forgotten saying that repeatedly during the Brexit legislation when it suited his partisan purpose(s).
