If people aren't supposed to eat animals; why are they made out of food?

[Quoute=LDN]

The World Health Organisation officially considers meat carcinogenic. Are they also marketing!?
They're bonkers. Don't they have pretty much everything on their carcinogenic list? Like shampoo?

And their ranking system takes no account of actual risk.

Still, why ruin a good headline?

Personally, I feel western societies like ours need to tackle a whole range of social issues that have allowed us to become less active, less healthy, more isolated and basically in decline.

An aside:

My colleagues in Public Health feel it is being poor that causes poor health, and Doctors would be as well to prescribe their patients to "be wealthier".

They meant this as a joke of course, aimed at the "powers that be" for presiding over austerity. Yet they didn't laugh when I pointed out that if a poor person stopped smoking, they would be both healthier and less poor...

As to removing meat, adults can survive as vegans but they need supplements. Even then most are in fact malnourished, and many do give it up when their health finally fails.

Tell us again how humans are carnivores

The joke at the start is a classic... but I’m afraid someone may have beaten you to it hehe

The WHO isn’t the only org stating meat as cancer causing. No headline to ruin. On top of that; it’s linked to a myriad of other illnesses and health issues.

As an aside; smoking is stupid. That was once hailed as healthy. And you’re right that anyone would be better off; rich or poor; health wise and financially, if they quit.

Breathing is cancer causing.

Its a fact that everyone who breaths dies, almost 50% of those breathers are touched by cancer at one time or another.

Its time to tackle and tax breathing.

I don't think anyone seriously doubts that the average Western diet contains too much meat from a health perspective.
The only reason anyone would believe that is misinformation pushed by industry and religious nutters. Eating meat, and animal fats in particular, created us. Humans before agriculture were bigger than us, stronger than us, and hard larger brains. The introduction of agriculture was in fact very bad for our health.

As to removing meat, adults can survive as vegans but they need supplements. Even then most are in fact malnourished, and many do give it up when their health finally fails. Babies on a vegan diet fail to thrive or die - how much clearer could that be?
Read what I said: "too much", not none, not vegan. And the idea that "too much red meat" is a conspiracy is just idiotic. Pretending it's the sane argument as marge versus butter or refined sugar versus fat is also idiotic.

And if you choose to grow crops using a rotation system, you usually allow the land to lie fallow every few years ... i.e. you let the grass grow.

Who the fk fallows land in the UK?

Most grassland, grazing land anyway, will be permanent pasture. Some land used for forage will be in an arable crop rotation.

A typical arable rotation is wheat, wheat, break, wheat, wheat, different break. The break crops could be oilseed rape, peas, beans, linseed, root crops.

Most land that is still permanent pasture is unsuitable for cropping due to topography, soil type, field size, local weather patterns etc. If you can't operate a 24 metre wide sprayer in a field, it's no good for cropping.

I could educate you on feed crops like feed wheat rather than milling, why they're grown to feed animals rather than people, but I'm going out for chips and maybe a beer.
You seem to have failed to notice that I pointed out most permanent UK grassland wasn't suitable for growing crops, but thanks for repeating the point.

Very little land is left fallow in the UK because of the use of fertilisers, but if you look at rotation systems that user less fertilisers ... ?

And you haven't responded to the simple fact that livestock do not thrive on grassland alone.

Here's a take on what the world would be like if meat eaters acted like veggies/vegans:

It's funny.

But vacuous. It's a great indicator that when all sensible debate subsides; the first to have gone down this route, are some of the meat eaters. A great indicator indeed wink

Not at all... just pointing out that; when debate falls to one side of a coin; oft' times, there's nothing left but satire wink

Vegans are most certainly not supported by or endorsed by 'the government'; so you're in a tangle there.

It was observance to doctrine rather than independent thought that I referred to.

Ironically; the doctrine, most certainly against popular opinion and the 'status quo', is by it's definition; born from independent thought. Funny that.
