Can this 'Emergency' be stopped in the courts? Or can he just do what he wants and take money from other areas?
The problem is that declaring a national emergency does not give him access to new funds. It gives him permission to appropriate funds from other, already funded areas... More specifically, the military budget.

So his national emergency will be de-funding the military of however much he wants to take which will make him real unpopular with supporters of the military and the military itself. That's if the emergency gets through the senate and the courts. A lot of republicans are starting to worry about re-election given the massacre in the house of reps. I would not be surprised if they turn against Trump to save their own skins (they are politicians after all).

Throwing your hat into Beto's ring at this point wouldn't be a daft move at all for a sitting Republican.

that just beggars belief. Can you imagine your kid's school sending such a letter out? How this can't be seen as a crisis is unbelievable. Guns over every thing - what a crazy, fked up mess.
Until Americans love their kids more than they love their guns they will continue to die in horrific and avoidable shootings.

This is America (but not a national emergency).

Can’t imagine living somewhere where even 0.00001% of me thought my kid may get killed at school when I drop them off.

Reminds me of 'Duck and Cover'

Everyone should watch Kinder Guardians arm the kids not the teachers! It's nuts and coming true.

I'm watching his budget/emergency announcement with the "Angel Moms"; he really is a rambling moron.

I genuinely think he has lost it (completely).

It's something else isn't it. He's talking like a 14 year-old schoolgirl.

"We're talking about an invasion of our country".

I am now sure he knows this is a fool's errand but is doing it solely so that he can complain that the Dems and the Courts are trying to endanger the US. It's all about the optics of the fallout.

Well in a turnup for the books, my missus (primary teacher) just told me that they do similar at her school in Surrey. I had no idea. Apparently ‘This is England’ too to a degree.

Apparently for possible shooters (no idea why over here!) plus things like parents who don’t have custody and would take their kids, have restraining orders etc.

Kids under desks, the lot.

Colour me surprised. But I still wouldn’t ever worry about it like I would if I lived in the US.

SO he's declared his national emergency. Interesting times ahead, even for Trump's presidency!

It appears to be the beginning of the bitter end for Paul Manafort.
The Special Counsel's Office is going to file its sentencing memo for his criminal case in Virginia today, so we'll find out soon how much time Mueller wants Paul Manafort to spend in prison.

“I didn’t need to do this,” Trump says of an emergency declaration that his attorneys will have to defend in court was justified by an emergency…
“I just want to get it done faster, that’s all."

So it's not an emergency then?

Tim Kaine wants a detailed list of projects from the Department of Defense that will lose funding as a result of Trump's emergency declaration.

Schumer and Pelosi: "This is plainly a power grab by a disappointed President, who has gone outside the bounds of the law to try to get what he failed to achieve ... The President is not above the law. The Congress cannot let the President shred the Constitution."

Patrick Leahy: "The President appears intent on stealing money ... for a national emergency that exists entirely in his head ... Let's not forever change the course of the separation of powers in our country simply because the President made a foolish promise he could not keep."

NBC point out how trumps wall was never going to be paid for by Mexico, no matter how he tries to spin it

Now that President Trump has accepted a budget deal that provides for $1.375 billion in funding for barrier-building on the southern border and declared a national emergency in a bid to secure more, the idea that Mexico would pay for the wall appears finally to be retired.

He's just tweeted this.

This man is the President of the United States, and he engages in teenage mean girl level social media.

He may regret releasing this emergency genie when the next Democrat Pres uses the same trick to tighten up gun control after another school massacre.
