Yup biggrin

Some idiots on the parade laps.Session 4 was an accident, so session 5, last on Saturday, was behind a pace cars as a compromise to cancelling all.
Some just drove like idiots, diving down the inside on corners as everyone queued, dangerous. Then someone overtook the pace car... so then all other sessions sunday hade 3 paces cars leading small groups at even slower speeds.

So the issue with trump and McGahn is that even if MvGahn ignores trump and testify, trump could tell GOP and associates to ignore his law firm Jones Day, just as the RNC made a $2 MILLION payment in April to Jones Day for legal and compliance services

It's amazing how many people the administration has effectively bought the silence of.

PS Hope Spa was good!

Kris Kobach submitted a list of 10 demands to Trump to take the position of "immigration czar."
A jet, highest pay, future cabinet post...

[img[https://pbs.twimg.com/media/D7CyxnRXkAEYAwH.png[/img]

https://www.nytimes.com/2019/05/20/us/politics/kri...

Mr. Kobach, who once served as an adviser to the hard-line immigration Sheriff Joe Arpaio and helped write an Arizona law requiring local officials to verify the citizenship of anyone they had “reasonable suspicion” to believe was an unauthorized immigrant, said he would need to be the main television spokesman for the Trump administration on immigration policy. And he said he wanted a guarantee that cabinet secretaries whose portfolios relate to immigration would defer to him, with the president mediating disputes if need be.

Michael Cohen told lawmakers earlier this year that one of Donald Trump's personal attorneys asked him to falsely testify to Congress and told him the president was considering granting him a pardon to “shut down” the Russia investigation, according to transcripts released Monday of Cohen’s two private interviews with the House Intelligence Committee.

Jerry Nadler: "The president took it upon himself to intimidate a witness who has a legal obligation to be here today. This conduct is not remotely acceptable."
"When this Committee issues a subpoena—even to a senior presidential advisor—the witness must show up ... McGahn has a legal obligation to be here ... If he does not immediately correct his mistake, this Committee will have no choice but to enforce the subpoena."

Is Nadler building up to something?
"The President has declared out loud his intention to cover up this misconduct. He told Mr. McGahn to commit crimes on his behalf. He told Mr. McGahn to lie about it ... he directed Mr. McGahn not to come here today, so that the public would not hear his testimony."

I'm surprised by McGahn's behaviour.

He seemed to be one of the few not willing to throw himself under a bus for Trump.

Does Trump have something on him that's preventing him from appearing?

CSIS - Democracy And Justice In The Age Of Disinformation: https://soundcloud.com/csis-57169780/democracy-and...

This podcast brings together a mix of people from legal, intelligence and other professions who have been involved in countering Russia's hacking and meddling. The participants are all civil servants so try and avoid partisan commentary which is in itself an interesting insight in to what it must be like for professionals who have to do their job in such a polarised environment.

It's a looooong podcast so I'm only part way through but so far it's ranged from the role of judiciary in a functioning democracy to specific methodologies used by Russian propaganda and potential counters that the USA could implement.

I find it quite encouraging to listen to these people because it shows there is still considerable depth within American democracy's immune system.

Well according to the earlier post from Byker, a $2m payment to his law firm, it would seem...

It still doesn't add up to me.

McGahn quit because he didn't want to be implicated by Trump's actions but now accepts (what amounts to) bribes?

There is more to this than meets the eye.

Must be bloody annoying having the idiots ruin everyone elses fun! Why don't they just ban them and kick them off for breaking rules like that?
Then the sensible ones can carry on as before.

It's certainly not beyond the realms of possiblity. I bet he's under a lot of pressure from the partners of the firm, though...

Last week the Trump administration decided to add Huawei to it's entity list which means that US companies require a license to commercially interact with them. among others Google announced that it would no longer deal with Huawei at which point the Nasdaq (America's tech focused stock exchange) took a nose dive. Today the American government rapidly backpedaled by announcing that it would grant Huawei a 90 day extension.

Article for reference: https://www.theregister.co.uk/2019/05/21/us_huawei...

There's a possibility that the white house was playing 4D chess by announcing the restrictions on trading with Huawei then granting a waiver a few days later, however there's also the possibility that they didn't have a scooby what they were doing when they announced the restrictions and were shocked to discover that it damaged so many American businesses.

Anyone from individuals with a Huawei phone to telcos with Huawei components in their infrastructure would no longer be receiving updates. American chip manufacturers like Qualcom get cut out of access to China's biggest phone manufacturer and many more scenarios beyond my awareness. This is indicative of a larger question within Trump's trade war, how does one one pursue an us vs them trade war within a globalised supply chain?

America's advantage is in its IP and inventive abilities but they rely on China's ability to manufacture at low cost and to refine REMs (Rare Earth Materials) in to useful components. Any USA attempt to revert to technological autarky means they've got to rebuild the entire supply chain. That means low cost factories either in SEA countries like Vietnam or in America using high levels of automation to keep costs down. It means someone must build REM refining capacities that can match China and that is a big bucks investment with or without state backing.

In some ways I applaud Trump for his stance on China because someone needs to stand up to China's anti competitive practices and right now I don't see anyone else stepping up to the plate. On the other hand I can't imagine a less competent person to lead this effort.
