Yellow vests - fuel protest day of action in France
Discussion
I’ve been catching up on this thread. It’s become a bit weird. It seems strange that those with right-wing views are hoping for a left take-over of a country we trade with. But then logic often fails when it comes to the EU.
In the late evening through to the wee smalls we’ve had people scared of David Attenborough; climate change deniers; climate change deniers saying that Attenborough has caused climate change; the BBC being criticised for not reporting something that wasn’t happening and when it did happen, nothing happened; people hoping for an extinction level event as long as it takes them out as well; the desire to stop all healthcare: it would seem that the idea of hiding in caves when it got dark was a great evolutionary move.

Funny how the people preaching about the environment are the people who, if we follow their logic, have caused the most damage. Wonder how much pollution Attenborough has caused over the years with all of his travel.
I think of all the people you could legitimately throw that one at, David Attenborough is a poor choice. The amount of awareness he will have created both in the short term and with the legacy he's created is absolutely immense.

So you are ok with listening to old people when you agree with them....The amount of awareness he will have created both in the short term and with the legacy he's created is absolutely immense.

The irony is immense, never thought i would see the day when PH supported rioting calling for higher taxes for the rich and international corporations.dasigty said:
Tear gas and mass arrests in Belgium AND the Netherlands yesterday, shops smashed, cars burning, riot police everywhere.
Ever get the feeling the BBC is trying to keep news from us ?, something in Germany as well, but can not get confirmation.
I doubt that Reuters, Twitter, Facebook, and the entire global news system are keeping it from you too.Ever get the feeling the BBC is trying to keep news from us ?, something in Germany as well, but can not get confirmation.

I might be open to suggestions that there wasn't enough coverage of matters in other EU countries in the past and too much on the USA, but it appears that we are getting greater coverage since the debâcle of brexit. I would have thought the leavers would be complaining that there was too much.

Given the prices we pay at the pump, Belgians have every right to complain, but unfortunately the movement seems to have been hijacked.
What is interesting about this is that it is every part of the political spectrum...people might try and attribute it to the far left or far right, but the reality is, with a 20% approval rating, Macron is deeply unloved.
The reason stems from the distribution of income and wealth...apparently the median spending power in France is 25-33% less than neighbouring countries, with taxes high, ending up in the pockets of civil servants and pensioners.
France needs Thatcherite reform, but won’t stand for it, so where does it go from here? Who knows.

My guess is the country carries on kicking the can down the road with the odd demo and riot periodically, just as they have done for decades. Police force high school students to knees during mass arrest

Until they exit the Euro they are screwed.
Why ? Is not french manufacturing a beneficiary of relatively weak currency , as with Germany ? They can’t spend at the levels required by their populace within the Euro deficit rules, yet the Euro supports their manufacturing, albeit to a lesser degree than Germany...after all, what would the Franc be worth today if it still existed?
