OK so who on ttter has 40.6K followers, 174K tweets and would have the knowledge that the Government has implemented D notice restrictions to the BBC reegarding "Yellow Vest" protests

If I was currently in Government I'd be glad of any coverage that is taking the media focus away from the complete clusterfk they are making of Brexit.........

It's a "French" focus issue - why the fk should it be on BBC UK news!!!!

I'm confused as to why you think the government was to suppress the reporting of the French riots. What will it do, apart from take attention away from brexit. You seem to be suggesting that twitter is a reliable source of news. I'm not sure that's correct.

Historically, the UK hasn't been that bothered by what has happened on the continent. Any online news gets a low level of hits. No one is interested. It is, I think, reprehensible, but it's what happens. They need hits so they ignore what their readers ignore.

Back in the late 60s there were real riots in France, almost a revolution, not like the amateur rent-a-mob they've got now. It went largely unnoticed this side of the pond, despite it being in all the papers. You could not have a conversation about it because no one cared. There was orchestrated mobbery, but it was half-hearted. Once the film of the Grosvenor Square attack on the police was seen, the public went against the rioters, regarding is as cowardly and really not British at all.

I'm sure it is not reliable. It is a source, to be treated with the upmost caution. Twitter can become the ultimate echo chamber, if you let it.

Having said that, I do use it. But it can't be used to gauge the scale of opinion or the depth of feeling on a topic.
