Strangely enough, one of the stories on the BBC News homepage is about the French protests...

Nope - genuinely interested in who on twitter is claiming a D notice has been served on the BBC to stop them reporting on "yellow vest" protests when clearly they are continuing to report it on the "Europe" news section.

Especially when I've had a quick look at the top 100 Twitter and there isn't anyone who fits the criteria you laid out in terms of bread crumbs

Go back to dark ages.

You are overstating the importance (and value) of Twitter. It can just as easily mislead as it can inform.

I've already given you a challenge to get in your car, drive for 4-5 hours in France and correlate what you see with your own eyes with what you are reading on Twitter.

If you conclude the scale of the "problem" as defined by Twitter, I will apologise. If on the other hand you find the Twitter "information" to be exaggerated and distorted maybe it might give you cause to reconsider the validity of your source....

Seems fair enough.

Friend of mine came back from a long drive from Toulouse over the weekend and didn't see much.

It's based on this :-

I do not have a source for the D-Notice.

The earliest reference I can find to this being posted is on December 8.
If it went to Facebook first, it would have been earlier.

Before anyone tries to BS you, the HQ of BBC North is in Salford, Manchester https://t.co/Zo2L57k9nfhttps://t.co/qMivRhrgUC

I know you’ve said you haven’t read MSM for 4yrs but you should try it. The BBC are literally reporting the thing you say they’re not reporting. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-46788751
