I think Corbyn is making Labour more unelectable and could possibly destroy his own party before May’s next vote of confidence.
They don’t need another no confidence vote, they just need her to set her exit date... she has already said she is going.

Is it too late for the whole brexit thing to be called off?
Wow Theresa May herself posting on a thread about her!

PH is awesome.

I seem to be aline in thinking May has played a blinder, she has basically put Mogg and co in a corner and the only way out his vote for her deal. Of course she is able to do this now labour have got off the fence as a general election would be between leave and remain in a two horse race, one of which is falling to pieces.

I can't see the ERG and DUP risking no brexit.
A blinder for who?

Certainly not the country given how awful her deal is. No there is only "no deal" or destroying the Conservative party as it stands currently. Hopefully the ERG will see that.

She has thrown down the gauntlet to the ERG, while making sure that it's a two horse race between leave and remain should it all go tits up.

No to her deal ok election and then her deal but signed by somebody else.

Who cares?

The ERG are the only politicians (plus a few Labour leavers) with any credibility left with most UK leavers. Why should they sacrifice that to put through a deal deliberately designed to keep the UK as a permanent subject of the EU and cripple our economy?. Why should they sacrifice their principles to keep a party of those who have betrayed Brexit voters in power?.

Keep to their principles and watch events play out. With any luck we will lose a lot more Blairites and Federalists from the party, because, despite May's best efforts, the brand "Conservative" still has value.

Anything but Corbyn though. He would make May look like Thatcher in terms of leadership ability and competence

Once Brexit is done and dusted whatever the outcome- please vote Conservative
Are you mad? I'll never vote Conservative again in my lifetime.

I could only do that if there were a better choice. Are you moving abroad?

This is why politics in the uk is so messed up. People view a party like their team and get upset when the party moves about and changes policy and MPs do things they don’t like.

I find it’s best to view parties like utility providers or insurers or your mobile phone provider. Each time your contract is up (a general election) look around and see which one is best.

People getting all tribal is what creates safe seats and lazy corrupt MPs, make them work for your vote.

Go to some deprived area where everyone says they’re never going to vote conservative because thatcher did something bad in the 80s. Is it better now? Have labour (or whoever) improved it? No because it’s a safe seat. They put their effort into areas they need to win and keep.

This is pretty much how I feel. The Conservatives have lost my vote.

I'm pretty pissed off with them but I wouldn't 'not' vote for them letting Corbyn in. You have to remember there are MPs in ALL parties trying to cock Brexit up.

Well the majority of donations for the Conservative party come from dead people, so they are indirectly relevant.

Look at America now. Think of May like Clinton, widely hated. Look who that got them but I would rather Trump than Corbyn any day

The main problem with a FPTP process is that there are always safe seats on both sides of the two major parties

Probably ~250 Safe seats on each of the sides (well excluding the lib dems) so ~500 seats have absolutely no influence on the result - the seats that do have an influence are the remaining ~150 and they decide the make up of the government based on which way they swing

I'm in a Conservative voting area - it's not been labour since mid 1960's and last election was a conservative majority of 16,000 so it would take a hell of a swing to get Truss out........

That's the bottom line it doesn't matter if I vote Green, Independant, Liberal or MRLP so my vote is effectively wasted

Will there ever be a change to PR so that no matter where you live your vote has an impact - pretty unlikely in my lifetime and I like where I live so I'm stuck with it

I wonder if it would be at all possible to award seats to parties based on share of national Votes. Reduce the seats available by enlarging constituencies so 325 and then 325 pro rata chosen by their parties

Not quite correct. In 1997, the tories managed to keep hold of just 165 seats. It is possible. That was a special case though as the tory party had been indulging in internal battle for some time. It was a shambles, with to two sides striving for control. There was no way they could have formed a government that could pass legislation. The like of it had never been seen before, nor since.

The difference now is that labour is indulging in in-fighting as well.

OK that was a bit of an odd one - the other conservative party (New Labour) won that biggrin
