I'm in a Conservative voting area - it's not been labour since mid 1960's and last election was a conservative majority of 16,000 so it would take a hell of a swing to get Truss out........

That's the bottom line it doesn't matter if I vote Green, Independant, Liberal or MRLP so my vote is effectively wasted
Have some faith, May will find a way
The area I live in is a blue as it can get. The local MP doesn't have to do anything to win (or do anything to stay in office). It's crazy. He took 70% of the votes in the last election. You could pop a blue rosette on a dead pig and it would win here.

Especially if it had some prior with CMD.

The main problem with a FPTP process is that there are always safe seats on both sides of the two major parties

Probably ~250 Safe seats on each of the sides (well excluding the lib dems) so ~500 seats have absolutely no influence on the result - the seats that do have an influence are the remaining ~150 and they decide the make up of the government based on which way they swing

I'm in a Conservative voting area - it's not been labour since mid 1960's and last election was a conservative majority of 16,000 so it would take a hell of a swing to get Truss out........

Will there ever be a change to PR so that no matter where you live your vote has an impact - pretty unlikely in my lifetime and I like where I live so I'm stuck with it
Out of interest, how did you vote in the PR referendum?

I doubt we will ever get a PR system

I recall being told at school that PR was bad because a party that was 'extreme' (like the Nazis) could get seats. I suspect if we did get PR you would get the odd few certainly.

Although I do not support UKIP I did feel bad when they got a lot of votes at one of the recent general elections and got almost no seats (or none at all, can't remember).

Just a point- there was no PR referendum. It was for AV, a clever twist by Cameron to split the Lib Dems. That said, a vote for AV would still have been an historic change that could have led to PR.

This is why politics in the uk is so messed up. People view a party like their team and get upset when the party moves about and changes policy and MPs do things they don’t like.

I find it’s best to view parties like utility providers or insurers or your mobile phone provider. Each time your contract is up (a general election) look around and see which one is best.

People getting all tribal is what creates safe seats and lazy corrupt MPs, make them work for your vote.

Go to some deprived area where everyone says they’re never going to vote conservative because thatcher did something bad in the 80s. Is it better now? Have labour (or whoever) improved it? No because it’s a safe seat. They put their effort into areas they need to win and keep.

yes someone needs to print that on a leaflet and send it to every home in the uk.

Isn't there something that means she can't be challenged until December 12 this year after last botched challenge to overthrow her?

Still the EU will humour her, so expect another rant in front of the podium in Downing Street ranting about how she was mugged off again and how the EU and UK are at an impasse...

Will this trigger a GE? Surely there is no one who wants the PM's job at the moment?

I voted Yes - it wasn't PR mind it was AV but I viewed that as a more positive direction of travel toward PR - I was on the very much losing side biggrin

Mrs May is in for a hiding later today. I have no doubt we will now see an extension and we won't leave.

that's what we were just saying in the office , quite a few people hope so, for the kicking it would give our political establishment
... I'm sure the brexit party will gain some serious support ...
now looks like all but a so called hard brexit will finish the tories ....

Except I don't think they have the numbers for a Hard Brexit. May will resign. New Tory PM and new referendum is my call.

Again i have said this before. I feel for TM. Aside from the fact her throat is voice is screwed at the moment she is trying to speak about the whole Brexit thing in the Commons on TV and minor "celebrity" MP's are interrupting her asking inane questions like "Can the PM confirm that people of Gibralter voted to remain in the EU...". Well apart from the fact instead of asking you could Google it (!!!!) these so called peoples representatives just seem to be there for the TV time on this important day and get Brexit through!
