Zigster said:
Boris would be a disaster. Loved by the Tory party faithful; loathed by the rest of the electorate. A bit like JRM.

I couldn’t vote for a party that thought BoJo the Clown was in any way fit and appropriate to lead the country. And I voted for BoJo as London mayor - I think he was good in that role.

Boris as PM would help Labour into power at the next election.
Partly agree, but Boris isn't a detail man. He's likely to be just the charismatic figurehead, with everyone else doing the real work.

Well, she'll beat GB's time in office at least.

off she goes and off goes the BoJo starter gun.

The reign of the TM is over.

The reign of the BJ is about to begin.

it's also the beginning of the end for the conservative party, imo of course.

Given her opening statement about her failure and the need for a new leader and the deadline at the end of October, why has she still not actually resigned? And why can't the leadership contest start this afternoon?

Why is her ego the most important thing in all this?

Well obviously she does. The new PM can't be PM until its decided who is going to be the new PM.

I feel that's all she was aiming for in the end. So she can claim 'At least I was better than Gordon!'.

Finally though, it's time to hit the reset button again and see where the next few months take us.

I think it is convention / process - as we don't have a vice-prime minister / formal deputy to take over.

we shall see i always remain optimistic in these situations.

she went through so much, emotion is not to be embarrassed about, i am glad that it was shown.

better than being wheeled away in a jag in tears.

It's not obvious at all, it's perfectly possible for her to go now and for Cabinet to install a temporary PM. The convention, following discussions with the Queen some decades ago is that Cabinet can decide a replacement, someone senior, but someone that intends to run for the job permanently.

It's utterly bizarre to announce that you intend to resign, either resign or don't. Under the circumstances the best thing for the party and the country is that she disappears as quickly as possible.
