Who is our next Prime Minister?

Caroline Lucas is a very impressive performer.
In many ways, she would provide the fresh start that our politics needs.
I can't see it happening though.
According to wiki, her two year period as joint leader of the Greens expired in Sept 18, and she said in May 18 she would not stand again. Evidently something has shifted a bit there. In many ways, she would provide the fresh start that our politics needs.

It's important to remember that the Greens sound nice on a short acquaintance, but once you dig a bit deeper they are properly madder than a box of frogs. Though Natalie Bennett's housebuilding interview at the last election was at least entertaining.
The problem with a Labour Govt isn't just Corbyn, nor is it Corbyn + McDonald. It's that Labour as a party has been overrun by Momentum, the spiritual successor to Militant Tendency. That pretty much guarantees that the Labour leader will be in the Corbyn/McDonald mould. Starmer sounds moderate enough, but either he's hiding his true colours, or he has no chance against the Momentum machine. Benn falls into the latter category, I suspect.
AIUI Labour already have plans on the books for how to deal with obstructions from the Civil Service, and I would imagine that they are not interested in compromise.

I think we will get a Labour/SNP/Green coalition.
It'll all go tits up, Corbyn will disappear to some island somewhere, Nicola Sturgeon will end up PM.

Would you like a 2nd referendum as well?

1. We're thinking of a different Caroline Lucas to the one associated with Brighton
2. You're deliberately trolling
3. You really have now lost the little bit of common sense you had.

It is beyond staggering to me that these fanatical extremists who have stated that their election to Govt will cause a run on Sterling and that they will overcome civil service resistance to their policies are odds on to take power. Yet many "normal" people are lapping it up.AIUI Labour already have plans on the books for how to deal with obstructions from the Civil Service, and I would imagine that they are not interested in compromise.
Businesses operating here could deal with a bad Brexit but a bad Brexit plus a communist government...I can barely comprehend how this country has got to this point.

Yep I’m amazed and terrified how people of their beliefs and background can be so close to the levers of power. The damage they’d do is off the scale. However they’re not in yet so there is still hope. I wish i shared that hope. I think its almost inevitable. Sooner or later, brexit or no Brexit, the tories will fall. They cant stay in power forever.monkfish1 said:

The current chaos might catapult the current Labour regime into power and that’d be that. However if that’s avoided, with some time for the Tories to change leader and for the dust to settle then I still think they’d have a good chance against the current Labour Party in a GE. In the last election even with a hopeless automaton as Tory leader, a self-destructing Tory manifesto, a dreadful campaign (May has a very safe seat, she’s never run a real campaign) and a yoof bribed with promises on tuition fees which are now revealed as lies, Corbyn did little better than Brown in 2010 viewed as a poor result at the time. Unless the next election is an emergency one as a result of Brexit crisis then all these stars are unlikely to align for Labour again. Added to which if you move away from the centre of UK politics you generally don’t get elected -Foot, Kinnock etc. Another election defeat probably moves Labour back to the centre or splits the more moderate off into a more central thinking party.
In short I agree we won’t avoid a Labour government at some point however if we get through the current chaos we might avoid a hard left Labour government. Here’s hoping.
Jeremy Hunt..... keeping a low profile lately, may appeal to younger demographic. Somehow survived being in charge of the NHS, and after Boris looks every bit the statesman as foreign sec.
If this comes to pass the BBC's Norman Smith had better take early retirement, given his issues with words rhyming with Hunt
