Release on 4th December.
It’s looking as much fun as ever, and will appeal to my “break stuff/blow stuff up” alter-ego.
I played Just Cause 3 more than I thought i would, and while it got a bit samey, you can create absolute carnage with ease.
Looks like you can now attach helium balloons (nod to Metal Gear Solid) and rocket boosters to stuff now too, so that’ll keep me kept amused.

As you guys said, I enjoyed JC3 but after a while it did get very samey, to the point that I stopped liberating areas once I reached the main island and just dicked about and cause absolute mayhem!
Really hope they sort out the physics quite a bit as a lot of things didn't feel right in JC3 either, mainly with vehicle controls with flying not being very intuitive.

Reading a few reviews and watching a few videos the general consensus seems to be that it's more of the same and not much of a step up from JC3.
Actually, watching videos you could be forgiven for thinking you were actually watching old JC3 game play, it really does look like more of a re-hash of an older game rather than something completely new. A lot of the vehicles look very much the same, as do buildings, landscape and pretty much everything really. Even the physics looks likes its been untouched and the UI looks even more confusing than in previous games!
Think It'll be one to get when it drops below £20 for me which going by reviews and by what's happened to Fallout 76, probably wont be long.

I cant help but wonder why they didn't aim to release this with a Battle Royale mode. I've gone back to playing a bit of JC3 and everything about the game would be perfect for it with the wing suit and parachute bringing some proper fast paced gameplay. They've even developed a weather system that'd be suited to the whole closing storm thing that you get in such games.
Surely it wouldn't be that hard to develop? You might have to drop players into restricted areas of the map for each game for load purposes it'd still be good.
Avalanche have said there wont be a battle royale mode but surely they've got to consider it, they've pretty much developed the perfect game for it already!

Please no more fking battle royale bullst infesting game stores, just go play one of the bazillion clones available already! (I might not like them, can you tell?)
Back to JC4, the steam reviews are horrible which is a shame. The previous one had quite a buggy release but it seems odd they are making the same mistake again! Also removing grenades/explosives what were they thinking?!?
They have released a statement saying they are working on it and listening to feedback, hard to not be cynical but it seems like they'd released it unfinished... maybe just been tainted by a number of releases this year in the same state!

The problem with JC4 doesn’t seem to be that it’s buggy, more that it just isn’t much different to JC3. Its almost as if they’ve just refreshed the map a bit, given you some balloons to play with and added a bit of weather. Back to JC4, the steam reviews are horrible which is a shame. As for a Battle Royale mode, you don’t have to play it and I just think the game really suits it!
Fair point on the BR mode but I don't like them as they usually bundle it up into always online & open world which are serious risks to the fun of a game like this. Farcry 5 managed to get it right imo with story co-op and their BR is a standalone?
More of the review list a fair number of game crashes, has anyone got this one the PS/Xbox to compare if it's across the board?

Really liked JC3, was about to buy JC4 and noticed it is free on Xbox Pass - probably means the game tanked?
It disappointed me hugely with its likeness to JC3. A missed opportunity. I gave up on it long before the end. It's not JC3. It's far worse IMO (speaking as someone who 100%'d JC3 about 7 times). It's the same basic setup but they removed all the stuff that was actually FUN:
- ammo is now quite limited so you have to run around collecting it from dead people and/or changing weapons a lot to whatever is available
- no grenades
- no C4
- enemies are fewer but tougher
- scripted storyline is much shorter than JC3, though fewer sucky cutscenes so that's something. And no Mario! (apart from one tiny cameo).
- you don't take over a base by blowing everything up; you have to flick specific switches in specific order (following directions). There's little point in the gratuitous explosions of old
- no wingsuit challenges (I loved these)
- no timed vehicle challenges (also good fun)
- no ability to "collect" all the vehicles in the game
- you very rarely get to drive/fly vehicles such as tanks or helicopters; they're thin on the ground, now have limited ammo, and get destroyed quickly
- no destruction challenges
The complete absence of challenges means that there's no upgrades you can apply to vehicles. The grappling hook does have a strange new mode whereby you can make it shoot balloons or rockets but despite a lot of customisation you can apply to these features, they don't really add much to the gameplay. I think the intention was to use the grappling hook as a generic destruction device hence the lack of grenades and C4, but it's not that much fun. You can launch lower grade enemies into the stratosphere by attaching a balloon to them, but it gets a bit tedious.
It does have hundreds of "achievements" you can do - basically drive a specific vehicle through a gate, or drive through a gate at a certain speed, but these are trivially simple and the game always places the exact vehicle you need within 10 yards of the achievement. So every one can be done on the first attempt - fly to the location, enter vehicle, drive through gate, done. The achievements are binary pass/fail and can't be repeated once done so they're nothing more than mechanical.
Some things are new/different:
- You can get killed by wingsuiting into stuff. Annoying more than anything.
- There's a very basic strategic element where you control a rebel army and direct the front line to attack new locations. This is woefully basic however, and you can't assist the rebels to advance the line by fighting the enemies - they just infinitely respawn. You actually advance the front line by destroying the bases.
- The storyline has some weather generating machines and the weather effects are pretty good, but completely underused by the game. Apart from the fact that their bases need destroying like everything else, they plan almost no part in the game.
The good bits:
- Far shorter loading times
- Seems pretty reliable (can't remember it crashing)
- Framerates seem pretty good. Doesn't become a slideshow with lots of explosions.
The graphics are a very minor upgrade over JC3 apart from the framerates, but they look a bit simple and oversaturated if you switch back to a AAA game like RDR2 which just blows it out of the park in terms of a graphically lush and believable living breathing world.
Essentially, it feels like it was a completely different team who worked on JC4 compared with JC3. It's like they missed the point that JC3 was FUN, with well-judged challenges to stretch players to improve and find the best way to get 5 gears. I just didn't find JC4 fun at all. I did complete it to 100% because I'm a bit of a completionist, but having finished it I have felt zero compulsion to play it again.
It all feels a bit unfinished, as if it was rushed out to hit the xmas 2018 deadline. Personally I preferred the Mediterranean feel of Medici far more, and the progressive element of the challenges.

I'd agree with all of that too. I did complete it but it became a bit of a chore to be honest. The mechanics were all there but the story and challenges etc just weren't enjoyable and understandable in the way that JC3 was.
The upgrades for the grapple I think I used once just to see what they did then didn't bother again. One of the challenges seemed to need you to use them but by that stage I just CBA. Shame as JC3 was wonderfully entertaining.

The main thing I miss is was way you had to take over bases and liberate towns by pure destruction, the whole map outside of the main story is just irrelevant without this element and massively takes away from the sandbox nature of the game.
I actually had more fun doing the Javi missions and wish they'd made more of that part of the game as it gave you a reason to explore the map.
There's also a few fun little Easter eggs worth exploring like the Take on me room, Cow gun and the Getting Over It mini game.
